According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, Nyjer Morgan was suspended eight games for his actions over the past week.
Specifically, Morgan ran into Cardinals backup catcher Bryan Anderson on Saturday, flattened Marlins catcher Brett Hayes on Tuesday and incited a benches-clearing brawl by charging the mound on Wednesday. This is bad enough on its own, but he was also seen jawing with fans on separate occasions. Major league baseball probably didn't like that too much. He's expected to go through the appeals process, but if both suspensions hold up, Morgan could miss a total of 15 games.

I had no idea that he was a serious hockey player. Apparently he was a teammate of Barret Jackman's with the Regina Pats.

Sorry, but Morgan hitting the catcher was completely unnecessary, if he slides, he is safe. He hit him because he wanted to hit him.
I hope Morgan gets plunked every time he comes up to bat.

Except that he did forgo the potential winning run in extras in order to blast the catcher.
Alas, I didn't notice the game situation.

Morgan then takes a couple bags with his team down a whooooole bunch of runs, and gets plunked again b/c the unwritten rules of baseball say you don't steal in that situation? Lemme just say: F THAT. The game was less than half over, and huge deficit or no, you play to get those runs back. You gonna tell Frank Reich to not try because U Miami is already up 31-0? Or, later, to just give up because the Oilers are way ahead? The Nats ended up scoring in all but 3 innings and plating 10 runs last night. They tried. Do I like Morgan? Nah. Should he have been thrown at multiple times? Also no. To me, Volstad, and Sanchez with the clothes-line, come out of this way worse.
He didn't get plunked because he stole with his team down 11 runs, he got plunked because he retaliated for a HBP the Marlins thought he deserved. Even Nyjer Morgan isn't a lousy enough baserunner to think it makes sense to steal second and third in that situation. He was doing it as payback.
I'm not a believer in pitchers assaulting batters to settle scores, but this entire argument has been misrepresented way too often. Nyjer steals down by 11 runs, people are just going to roll their eyes at him and his manager is going to ask him what the hell he's doing. Nyjer steals down by 11 runs to needle a team that thought he needed a lesson, and they're obviously going to give him another.

IIRC, Babe Ruth was suspended for the first 60 days of the - I want to say - 1923 season for playing barnstorm games in the off-season without the commissioner's approval.
