Bielema took over a team that went 19-6 in Barry's last two years. The guy coming in to replace Bielema will be taking over a team that went 19-8 the last two years. Granted, I don't know how it worked with graduating seniors in Bielema's first year, but they'd been every bit as successful at the very end of Barry's tenure when he handed over the keys as they were in Bielema's tenure. Bielema was handed a really great program that had experienced a lot of success in the two years prior. The dry run the few years before that (during Barry's tenure) just happened to coincide with their NCAA probation period, when the Badgers took on NCAA sanctions... because Steve Schmidt gave some shoes to some players. I have a hard time busting Barry's balls about that.

They're only going to the Rose Bowl because OSU was ineligible. They were 4-4 in the Big Whatever this year. They weren't horrible by any stretch but certainly not at a 100 year high.

All I'm saying is that I would not put money on Bielema's replacement being able to out-perform his record. If Wisconsin can find someone who can do as good as he did, they will be doing pretty darn well for themselves.

I think Bielema knew he had been very fortunate with the success he'd had in Wisconsin and wanted to parlay it into a bigger paycheck before he wore out his welcome. Simple as that.
