Weird.
That's all there is to it. Meeting women online isn't even weird anymore...I can buy the lying saying he met her to save face, but so many other things simply don't add up here.
First Armstrong chooses to admit things so he can compete in triathlons or whatever and now this.
Crazy week.

I'm leaning on the side that he was duped. When giving an interview on TV you don't really want to admit that you have never actually met your girlfriend, that is weird, so he embellished the relationship and said they have met a few times.
ND says they hired a PI team to investigate, and I'm sure they found out most of the truth. So what would ND get out of lying for him? They know the full truth will come out, and I don't think they would stick their neck out and blatantly lie for him if they didn't think this was true.

According to the Deadspin article,
* they met in 2009 after Notre Dame played at Stanford
* Te'o's father said she came to visit him
* ESPN said they talked on the phone regularly
* Also said they talked regularly during her cancer treatments
* His father congratulated her via telephone when she was released from the hospital
* Her brother informed Te'o that she had died
This doesn't square with Te'o being the victim of an internet hoax. This seems like Te'o and his dad were trying to win a Heisman.

Could still be a hoax... He fell for a chick he met online, but didn't want it to seem weird so he made a couple things up to make it look like a more real relationship.
The people pulling the hoax could have had a woman call him in order to keep it going. It's not that hard to lie over the phone. Watch the show Catfish, it happens all the time...

His agent at least had better hope that Te'o was hoaxed. Because if it turns out that not only was he making this up but he told another lie after getting caught, he might not get drafted at all.
