The deal on Urias is that he was gonna be on an innings limit, so giving him six weeks off now basically gets him right where they want him. And has him available as a September call-up. Actually sounds like a smart proactive move.

River Bandits beat Peoria 8-1 last night to go to 32-10. Bandits pitcher Daniel Mengden's scoreless innings streak was snapped at 27 1/3 innings. Nottingham went 4-5 with a double and this moonshot:

Reyes? He's a starter. I mean, you never know where he'll end up, but he's projected to be a major league starter. Through and through. And he doesn't have the small frame that concern a lot of people about Martinez durability. Reyes is 6'3.

oh i know...it's just that i got a "future closer" vibe after reading it the first time. not so much the second time around though.
hopefully he's able to fix the command issues as he advances though

It seems like they're giving up on him as a hitter pretty quickly considering he had all of 140 ABs at Peoria last year before promoting him to High A before this season. I get that he's not been young for all of the levels he's played at but it seems like a drastic move for a hitter that has shown plus power in a system that doesn't have much of it.

Our system can never have enough position players-turned-hard throwers.
