Ignorance doesn't absolve him guilt, and is not an excuse. But if he was mislead, or they betrayed his trust, then it is something I can sympathize with. It could happen to anyone.

When I say "it could happen to anyone", I'm talking about deferring to the opinion of an expert that you're paying thousands of dollars to. Not specifically hunting exotic animals.

A reasonable person would have to know something shady was up deliver him his trophy. I don't think this wealthy dentist is falling for many expert Nigerian email scams. He knew what he was paying for and he can't plead Lake Wobegon. The best option for the dentist is poor-me/persecuted-by-media angle, and that's what is being played.

But again, hunting lions in Zimbabwe is legal with a permit. Don't you think it's possible that Palmer paid for the guide/permit, finished the hunt, and only discovered at the end that the lion he had killed was protected? Or do you believe that he negotiated from the beginning to specifically hunt this particular lion, knowing full-well it was illegal?

I mean, like I said earlier, it just doesn't add up: why would he deliberately engage in the illegal hunt of a lion when he had legal alternatives? This argument is being framed like lions are an endangered species that cannot be hunted under any circumstances; however, 11 countries allow permit-based lion-hunting, including Zimbabwe. What incentive is there in taking the illegal route when he has the financial means do it do the sanctioned way?

I still assert that if anyone was wrong, it was his guides.

So would you be this "outraged" (not the right word) if it was a lion from a different pride that wasn't being protected in that same area? It's still an exotic animal.

I said over in social that I don't truly understand the uproar over this (and I mean the people who are simply upset he killed a lion). I'm not a fan of the big game/exotic animal hunts because I think it's truly a "look-how-rich-I-am" thing. And that's not envy coming from me, it's the attention-whore angle of someone trying to say they're better than everyone else.

I agree in that I'm no fan of Internet outrage. That's how it works these days though.

Yeah, I'm not outraged. This (GRB) is about the extent of it for me on social media.

Yep -That is true for me. Whether they find a way to get it sanctioned or not, it's not cool. They are taking advantage of 3rd world desperation to stroke themselves. (FWIW-this is one of the reasons I don't patronize Jimmy Johns). Dentist guy taking the internet hit for something that he thought was legal - oh well.

Once the dentist gets his order of Billy Bob Teeth, he can come out of hiding.
