The amount of money they are spending on ads plus getting basically all of sports media to shill for them overnight must be incredible. That alone would give me pause about playing because their "rake" has to be huge to support all of that.

Saahil Sud is a fake-sports apex predator. He enters hundreds of daily contests in baseball and football under the name "maxdalury," and he almost always trounces the field. He claims to risk an average of $140,000 per day with a return of about 8 percent. Sud studied math and economics at Amherst College and took a job in data science at a digital marketing firm before shifting to full-time fantasy. He's now the top-ranked daily fantasy sports player, according to Rotogrinders, a stats site for daily fantasy players. He says he's made more than $2 million so far this year.

And, if sports betting goes legit--and with lots of weight behind it, not just from pro leagues, but also from federal agencies, it's possible, congressional hearings notwithstanding--these places are going to be worth 6 Kajillion dollars if they can play their cards right. Shift that money from incessant advertising to lobbying and they got it.

While Stern is in favor of allowing betting on athletic events, he believes that it should be a matter of federal law, and not decided on by state legislation.

It is completely mind blowing how much ad money they are spending. They must be raking in millions. I was watching a show not at all related to sports and all the sudden there was a 3 minute Fan Duel infomercial instead of regular commercials.

DraftKings ads have aired a skull-clutching 16,259 times over the course of the month, which works out to 135 hours and 25 minutes of 30-second spots. That's more than five and a- half days, or a full work week, of commercial messaging that's been hammered out in the span of a 29-day period

And thought it sounded familiar - Edward Norton narrates a few of those ads. I like Ed.

At some point in the fairly near future these sites have to implode right? They are living fat off of venture money right now but in the end I don't think their model has staying power.

There are a lot of normal people trying their hand at it right now but eventually they are going to realize that they are being taken by those sharks and never go back which is going to leave nothing but the high money sharks to play against each other and then it all falls apart once the easy money dries up and they aren't making the big returns.

From what I read, they aren't profitable and are angling towards IPO before implosion.

And in case this isn't apparent, FTR I hardly care about the morality of gambling on sports, the hypocrisy of the leagues about gambling, and idiots being wooed away from their money. I'm just going Andy Rooney on the stupidity of it all being played out in bro-mnipresent commercials. Bring back Hannah and her Horse!
