Adjusted ERA from 2008-2014, Wainwright is 159, Cueto is at 129.
Is it really fair to Cueto to go back to 2008? That's AW's prime vs. Cuetos' first few seasons as a kid. Run those again since 2011 and it's going to be closer. FIP still doesn't like him, but his ERA is consistently better, so I take that as a flaw with the way FIP interprets his pitching style.

Anyway, Cueto is good. He's one of the better pitchers in baseball. The only one arguing that he's better than AW is the agent.
2008 is Wainwright's second worst season though. I wouldn't really call that his prime. Plus it also encompasses his 2012 season when he had come back from a serious injury and was below league average. I think it's pretty fair. Plus, his agent said for the decade. If he said last 3 seasons, he'd have a decent argument, he'd still be wrong, but he'd have an argument.

General manager John Mozeliak agreed that a lot of time has passed from the brawl and many of the players have been able to move on.

Yadier Molina and Brandon Phillips have long since cleared the air.

The reason the Cardinals haven't made a play for Cueto has more to do with their valuations of the pitcher at this point and where they think the market would go for him. The years and dollars it would take to land him -- based around the Arizona offer -- would be beyond the Cardinals' wishes. They have dialed back their pursuit of starters to one-, two-year options with few exceptions.

Whether the market will bring Cueto back to them in that range remains to be seen.

Mozeliak said such a move wouldn't be impossible to sell to the team because it would be presented as trying to improve the club, if that's the direction they chose to go. He acknowledged their focus has been elsewhere in recent days.

Should the Cardinals sign Cueto, I would ask him to cut/trim his flocks. He looks like a cave man out there on the mound. I've heard that Brayan Pena (new addition) is Johnny's best friend. So, he may sign for less bucks just to pitch to Pena. However, I don't see Cueto in a Cardinal uniform.

If he does come, I hope Yadi fills his locker top to bottom with a bunch of these:
