I toured a print shop the other day and they had a dog wandering around. It even wandered right into the conference room where we were meeting. And as we walked around looking at the machinery and departments- wide format, offset, digital- we kept walking by the dog. She was a real friendly type (like 99.5% of all dogs). It was great.

I was traveling for a week and when I picked up my dog to take him home yesterday, he was so happy he was howling. He sat with his head in my lap all evening and licked my hand while I cringed during Breaking Bad.

Oh swirls, that had to be awful to watch happen. So is your dog out from sedatives now, back home with you until his consult tomorrow, or still at the vet? Is it only his leg and nothing internal? Best of luck with everything tomorrow. I hope his prognosis is manageable and he lives a long and happy life.

It was absolutely terrifying to watch happen. He was taken off of anesthesia earlier this afternoon, and the vet said that after observations early this evening if he was eating and drinking I could pick him up tonight and take him home (they're open til 9pm). If not, then they would keep him for observation tonight and I could pick him up tomorrow morning before I leave to go to the surgeon. The more I think about it, even though I really to be able to snuggle up with him while he's in pain, it's probably best for him to stay at the vet tonight where their after hours department can keep an eye on him. I'm waiting to hear back from the vet about letting me come by in a few hours to at least see him and give him some kisses.

Right now, yes, it's only his leg. No internal organ damage or other parts of his body, save a couple cuts and scrapes from the pavement.

He'll turn 9 next week (9/22), so he's already lived a very long, active, and happy life, but I'm certainly not ready for it to be over. I have a pet insurance policy on him that I took out about three years ago, so I really couldn't care less what the bill is.

So the vet called, and said he had actually recovered incredibly well after he went off of the anesthesia. He even went for a short walk. The vet actually recommended that I pick him up, since he really didn't need to be there at all any longer.

My god it was amazing to see him tonight. With the run of [expletive] luck that I have had lately, part of me expected to get terrible news from the vet: "Unfortunately, your dog broke one of his legs and also has several punctured organs and is bleeding internally" or some other terrible thing. You know those YouTube videos about how a dog sees its owner for the first time in like 6 months or a year, that's how I felt about 20 minutes ago. I couldn't spot crying tears of and hugging and kissing him constantly.

He's obviously still in pain, but I think the meds have blocked a lot of it out. He's currently snuggled up against my feet on the couch. Occasionally panting smiles at being home.

You know, they really are. You were wanting a happy dog story JoD? I think tonight's ending qualifies. Hopefully after his consult and surgery it's even better.

So thrilled to hear, Swirls! Your post earlier seemed way more dire, but it sounds like he can recover. Glad he's home and you're able to get doggie kisses! You probably needed that as much as Oscar did!
