Yes. To be honest, what is there to do in New York that you can't do in Indianapolis during Super Bowl week?Vidor wrote:If you want the Super Bowl to be electric, one of the participating teams should host it.
Meanwhile, not sure why it's to NYC's discredit that it isn't wigging out over the NFL hype machine. Because that's what we're talking about here, all of the loud, obnoxious hype, not the game. Speaks well of New York that it isn't going gaga over all that ridiculous nonsense that Leitch describes. What should they do, lay down rose petals for Roger Goodell to walk on? Are we supposed to admire Indianapolis for obsessing over the Super Bowl because there's nothing else to do there?
If New York doesn't want to get caught up in all of the hype, then they shouldn't be the hosts. It's really as simple as that. It's the biggest event in all of sports, really. If you can't get excited about that as a host city, then you don't deserve to host.
To be brutally honest, if you don't care about the hype, then why do you have a problem with those of us who do get consumed by it voicing an opinion about who should host? For someone who doesn't care, you're certainly getting caught up in it.

Um..the reason Indy got SB is because they build new stadiums every decade. Not because they are the best most excited fans.

Hoosier Dome was built in 84 and the Colts played there for 24 years. Still too soon, but let's not get carried away. Of course there was no stadium before that. Indy's also made a point of hosting major sporting events the last 20 years.Freed Roger wrote:Um..the reason Indy got SB is because they build new stadiums every decade. The only problem New York has is where the actual stadium is relative to where all the fun stuff in NY is. It's surrounded by parking lots isn't it? Lucas Oil is a couple blocks away from a bunch of bars and restaurants, not to mention the hotels for the players, reporters, and celebrities. The city really did a great job setting everything up. Exceptionally nice weather helped a lot too.

Two decades, twenty four years - Close enough for this.ghostrunner wrote:Hoosier Dome was built in 84 and the Colts played there for 24 years. Still too soon, but let's not get carried away. .
I understand Indy is a good central location, and does well hosting big events.
STL does ok with hosting NCAAs in this vein - Central, craploads of parking downtown, not a lot of residents in DT to disrupt -the event can have their way with the place. Perhaps if STL built another stadium....
Anyway, I'd rather have the football aesthetic of the game played outdoors. Rather than played in a dome but having a good super bowl week party aesthetic.

I sat down to catch some of the pre-game show and was a little confused. First there was a live Phillip Phillips American Family Insurance commercial followed up by a Fox News Benghazi hearing. Wonder when the football coverage begins??

I want to go to Starbucks during the Super Bowl, sorry Roger - please don't sue me, the "big game", and look at all the hipsters for whom just saying they don't care about the "big game" isn't enough, they have to be seen not caring about it.

Hipster hate has gotten so weird I'm on the hipsters side now. I'm not sure a real hipster, whatever that is, would be at Starbucks. There are people who just don't care and have other stuff to do. I'm probably going to tune in online now and then, assuming that's still an option. The extent of my interest is tied up in Peyton shutting some haters up, but even that doesn't amount to that much.stlouie_lipp wrote:I want to go to Starbucks during the Super Bowl, sorry Roger - please don't sue me, the "big game", and look at all the hipsters for whom just saying they don't care about the "big game" isn't enough, they have to be seen not caring about it.

I dunno, folks on a message board doing NFL corporate cheerleading just strikes me as weird.Socnorb11 wrote: To be brutally honest, if you don't care about the hype, then why do you have a problem with those of us who do get consumed by it voicing an opinion about who should host? Meanwhile, back at the ranch, my 5-year-old daughter showed a sudden and completely unexpected interest in football during conference championship week. So I am, of course, making Super Bowl cookies.
