Well...crap.

HJ, mom is 51.

She made the decision yesterday to come off her Bi-Pap machine (one step shy of a ventilator). She has chosen to go peacefully (we hope), and has been placed in inpatient hospice. The cancer and infections just wouldn't stop. In the last week she's had everything from 2 separate UTIs to a chest tube, PCC (heart catheter), PCW (opening of a small piece of muscle tissue under her heart to allow draining), a second chest tube, a nearly collapsed lung, and atrial fib.

She finally said enough was enough.

There is a VERY small chance that she will pull through, but likely, we have very little time left with her. My sister and I shed lots of tears with her yesterday, and today has been a blur.

Thanks for all the support on here folks...it really has been appreciated.

Sorry to hear that. Sounds like a real tough situation. It is obvious that you care deeply or you wouldn't be posting this here. That says something about your character. These type of days will come to my family at some point, and I just hope I can be strong through it. I can only say I hope you can be strong too, and I think you can.

I'm sorry man. These are I'm sure wrenching, surreal days for you. I went through it with my mom and wouldn't wish it on anyone. It's amazing how fast a life can unravel. Stay strong. There are hard days ahead to get through but you will be okay, in time.

I have a friend (female, age 47) with cancer that has spread to her Liver and Lungs, and we just found out last week that a kid on my son's HS x-country team has lymphoma. He is a world class tri-athlete - and I'm not exaggerating. Got a Silver in Singapore Youth Olympic games last August.

It does not discriminate.

My Father, 66 at the end of April, has had cancer twice in his life, once in his thyroid and once in his lower back, and he's beaten it both times. Unfortunately, it's come back. So he has to undergo medication (fortunately not chemo this time) for it.

I found out from a call from my Mom a few hours ago that he fell and cracked some ribs (with which he already had some problems due to some combo of medication or lack of vitamins, who knows) and had to be taken to the hospital.

It kills me to see my Father in almost constant pain. And when he's not in pain he's either asleep or borderline psychotic on the pain medications. It just kills me. Mortality [expletive] sucks.

So sorry to hear that bunt. It really hits home when I realize my parents are about the same age and yet I feel like they're still very young.
