Opening Night: Post Game Thread

There were a few things I liked about last night's game:

Eckstein: 3 for 4 and an RBI.
Molina: 2 for 4
Kennedy: Triple
Rolen: nice defensive play charging in on a grounder from Reyes to throw out Glavine at 2nd
Johnson and Flores: each pitched an inning without giving up a hit

Opening Day is always special, especially when we raise a World Series flag.

Things could be worse.

It's a bad sign when Preston Wilson comes up with 2 on, nobody out, and I can confidently announce to my friends "Here comes a patented Preston Wilson swinging strikeout." And then be absolutely correct.

What the hell does LaRussa have to do to get the benefit of the doubt anyway?

For Chrissake - the best 10 years of baseball by this team and reigning champs and this is what he gets. Feh.

Maybe he was starting So tyo see if a vote of confidence might help? Maybe Carp messed up the squeeze? I don't remember LaRussa being at the plate when that went down.

Yeah, it was craptastic last night for sure. But if I know LaRussa, you aren't going to see him tolerate that for long. Surely you've been watchnig the Cardinals long enough to know that.

Give me a break.

1. Start Taguchi
2. Not bringing in Duncan
3. Calling for a squeeze with Carpenter at bat
4. Bat Molina fifth

Pujols, Rolen, Edmonds, Duncan, Eckstein and Kennedy...they'll all be fine. I don't think the latter four are going to have monster seasons by any stretch, but they aren't going to kill the Cardinals. I see St. Louis being the 2003 Dodgers. They had a great pitching staff, which I think the Cardinals will have, but their lineup was atocious.

Just not enough pitching to get it done.

We've only seen Carp throw one outing and the other 4 starters haven't even pitched yet!

I don't think the pitching will be the teams problem this year, it's scoring runs.

Did you guys forget that Tom Glavine has 291 wins?

The Cards were not facing a chump last night. They couldn't hit left handed pitchers last year with the same team, did you think they were going to learn how in five months?

Reminds me of a game last year when Maddux shut us down. There was a post along the lines of "We made that guy look like a Cy Young pitcher".

Uh, yeah. And a future HOF'er to boot.
