I'm quite defensive of gay rights - probably half my friends are gay. So I've held my tongue a bit here. But here's my last contribution to this absurd notion that we have a switch in our heads to change something so entwined to the core of our being as who we want to give our hearts (and naughty bits) to.

My best friend in this town is a lesbian. She's beautiful (despite her gay-ass mohawk), passionate, funny, and we spend more time together than me and my guy buddies. She's slept in my bed (with just me and with, um, others). She has many times joked that we'd get married if she were straight. In the world of conservative logic, she should be able to say "know what? This guys perfect for me. Let's be together".

Why won't that happen? Because she likes boobs and the vajayjay just as much as you and I, and is completely uninterested in chest hair and our bait and tackle. Just like straight men.

So pardon me if I think its insulting on many levels when I hear homosexuality so grossly misunderstood as a choice like veganism or a sports team following. And for that matter, its just as obnoxious and stupid when a guy at the gay bar we're at acts like I'll suddenly pick his team after another fruity shot.

I'm trying to imagine the physics of that myself.

It's obviously not a choice like veganism. That said, I think the idea of perfectly stable innate sexual orientations is something of a social construction. There's alot more gray area out there which people want to avoid for a variety of reasons. That's sort of the point of this thread.

None of which has any relevance to the matter of equal rights. In a saner world, that would be recognized as being so obvious as to be embarrassing to discuss.

Yeah. I mean, it's not like all those people with clinical depression or social anxiety issues who choose to have those problems.

C'mon! If it's past midnight, you quote anything she says that's even remotely interesting or it'll be gone before you refresh.
