SLU definitely gained a ton by playing Duke and getting humiliated on national television.

Nice come from behind win tonight over Jacksonville. Rick Majerus wants to eat your children.

lol, I went and sat front row directly behind Majerus... which is kinda like getting a seat behind 1 of the poles at Wrigley.slide_into_first wrote:Nice come from behind win tonight over Jacksonville. Rick Majerus wants to eat your children.
exciting 2nd half though, they looked like [expletive] in the first half, however
oh, and I don't think I've ever seen SLU sink that many 3's

I agree, I place the blame on Mitchell and Reed for our setback.lukethedrifter wrote:Oh, what could have been.
Side note: Both Mitchell and Reed are looking to re-apply in January to come back to SLU. As a basketball fan, I want them to come back. As a person, they can take a long walk off a short pier. It will be interesting to see how this shakes out.

Missouri State continues their domination of SLU in basketball. 9 of last 11 as Bears win by 16.
Jordair Jett is really good though. Mike McCall is going to be good as well. Lots of talent in the SLU pipeline, but it's young. Majerus nerds to keep these guys together and they'll be good in a few years.

McCall has a lot of polish right now, but not the upside that Jett has. Jett could be better than Mitchell if he doesn't run any trains. Loe is the guy to really watch, the big man can play the in-and-out and shoot a three, but he needs to bulk up...Majerus loves that (who doesn't). What we really need is a solid 3-point shooter (Salecich, Ellis, Cassity just don't cut it)...then I think the team starts to make a few runs.phins wrote:Missouri State continues their domination of SLU in basketball. 9 of last 11 as Bears win by 16.

Once again with SLU, and this fiasco, has taken 2-3 steps back after taking a step forward.
Hopefully, this young team will stick together and start making a few runs over the next few years.

Re: Holy [expletive] SLU
Yup Jett is the higher upside of the two guards. He's better than McCall already.
I heard and heard the hype on Rob Loe, but he's so soft I don't see him being anything special. He has some skills for sure, and does have a soft touch, but I thought he sucked honestly. I'm not sure he'd even get off the bench at Missouri State, at least not this year.
He looked flat out scared against Duke, and not the type of kid who is ready to play a physical game. Against Missouri State, I was anxious to see him against players not quite as athletic, and every Bears post player couldn't wait to get on the court against him. Will Creekmore is a 6-9 post who's very limited athletically, and he had a career day against him. Ok, he's a Senior, and has a lot of strength on him, let's see how he does against a player who's just like him.
Enter Caleb Patterson, a 7' kid who's skinny, kind of a finesse player who loves to hang around the perimeter. Loe had no chance against him either.
The third string kid is a 6-10 banger type who doesn't play much and he could wait to get off the bench against him.
Loe has skills, but if he's going to play such bad defense that teams shoot 80% in the paint against him, he's a liability to the Billikens. I'd play Remekun more if it were me, because at least strong and athletic enough to slow teams down. Especially if Loe's shot isn't falling. Give Loe a few years to gain strength and hopefully some toughness, he could be the goods, but of all the players on SLU's team, give me Jett.

Re: Holy [expletive] SLU
I can your point on Loe, but we are 10 games in on the year, and I've seen flashes of him where he flat out dominates a team. His weight is an issue...like I said, he needs to bulk up about 50 lbs and start using his body. He doesn't do that yet, he's trying to play like a 6'11" guard...eh, not good. Plus, trying to grasp the Majerus system is always trouble for freshman. It usually takes 2 years to fully understand and run comfortably.phins wrote:Yup Jett is the higher upside of the two guards. Remekun is decent, but he was in foul trouble all last year. This year he seems to have corrected that, but I'm still wondering where his ceiling is. Conklin just bangs, typical blue collar basketball player, and if it wasn't for Reed getting kicked out of school...Conklin would be a bench player. Evens is small for a forward (6'5"), but I like what I see so far...he likes to drive and draw fouls, but I think that's his limit...seems to do ok on rebounding.
I'm more concerned about Ellis...he's so streaky that I'm about to label him a bust, but we'll see how he does the rest of the year. I'm starting to wonder if the Aussie's are overrated. I've heard that Salicich beats himself up too much for missing shots, and it causes his game to go to crap. That needs to get fixed.
Our lack of a true sharpshooter from beyond the arc just kills me...even Mitchell, while good, wasn't as consistent as I would like. Cassity is just hit or miss the rim completely, ugh.
This year is going to be so up and down (probably more down), it's going to drive me nuts...but you're right, Jett is something special...raw, but good.
