I would too. I need my winter sport to get me through life, I do feel for hockey fans and hope for the best. It sucks.

Even moreso for Blues fans. Finally get a performance breakthrough last season. Finally get an owner. Finally get Tarasenko here (the scoring forward we've needed for years). Ready to kick ass and take names this season. And now...this.

After reading this, what is to stop the AHL, or some of these other minor leagues from entering some of these markets? Or what is to stop some new hockey league from launching and trying to encroach on these NHL markets?

For example, the AHL Chicago Wolves have to be absolutely loving their situation right now. There was an ECHL team that played at the Sears Center in the NW suburbs, but they folded after last season. The Blackhawks are not playing. So, the Wolves are the only game in town, unless you count the USHL Chicago Steel. The Wolves really became established during all those years that the Blackhawks struggled so badly at the gate and on the ice. And, here we are again.

How are some of these arenas getting by? A lot of these arenas were built with tax funds, and have bills to pay. They can still do concerts and *might* have an NBA team or some other tenants, but I have to imagine some of the arenas are very frustrated (if not bleeding money). The NHL teams are probably still paying rent, but a lot of arenas rely on concessions and parking revenue as well, which is $0 right now. Just a question. Maybe the lease agreements take this kind of thing into account.

I wish I could say, "I hate you NHL--I'm done with you." But I'm not. I want you back so bad. Maybe I'd feel different if the Blues weren't poised to be one of the best teams in the NHL this year.
