Plummer has a chance to be a plus hitter for both power and average. He has a quick left-handed bat and a mature approach, hitting gap to gap while doing a nice job of recognizing pitches and refusing to chase them out of the strike zone. He shows average to solid speed and can steal an occasional base.

Some scouts think Plummer has the instincts to stay in center field even though he's not a plus runner, while others think he's destined for a corner. If that happens, his arm will fit better in left field than in right. Wherever the Kentucky commit winds up, he's one of the most dangerous high school hitters in this Draft.

We knew one of the prep outfield bats was going to fall, and it seemed likely to be Plummer, who was difficult to scout this spring in northwest Detroit and in a league where hitters start with a 1-1 count. Plummer has plus bat speed and a sturdy, physical build that allows him to drive the ball with authority to all fields. He's a corner-only bat, but he might be above average there, with the wheels to cover plenty of ground. The Cardinals fell into a potential above-average regular here.

One of the better pure hitters in his class, Plummer has plus bat speed and raw power from the left side. The 18-year-old lacks physical projection at 5-foot-11, 200 pounds, but he makes up for it with an innate feel for hitting and plate discipline that can’t be taught. Plummer, a Kentucky commit, excelled on the showcase circuit last summer and has a strong track record against quality pitching, and some scouts believe he might be able to handle center field at the next level. However, Plummer’s value always will be tied to his promising bat. Getting Plummer this late in the first round could be a steal for the Cardinals. The recommended slot value for the No. 23 overall pick is $2,124,400.
