Where did you get them Doc? I might be getting a dog (the first one that's really "mine") sometime over the next 6 months. Those little tuckers are cute.

There is one dog left in the litter, Sage. He is pretty freakin cute.

I'd like to retract my support of Gateway Pet Guardians. I just had a psycho experience with some fringe elements of that organization. It lasted all day today.

I adopted two puppies. One is scared of the world and the other wants to see as much of it as he can.

The black one, loves adventure. He escaped the second day I had him. He escaped again Tuesday. When I got home from work and realized he was gone I drove the neighborhood for a few hours looking for him, knocked on doors, called local animal control, made craigslist ads, etc.

I also contacted the rescue group. They made a facebook flyer and it got shared like, 500 times.

Tuesday night, I decided to get up early and start putting flyers up in the neighborhood, but I know my neighborhood. Either a good person is going to take him to local animal control or a bad person is going to keep him.

So I am leaving messages on various shelter groups, finishing up my flyer, etc...and at 9:30am there are people at my door with flyers to post in the neighborhood from the group. Ok, well, I made my own flyers which are more clear to read. But it is thanksgiving, and how amazing that they would come and help. But how weird that they wouldn't call, email or text me that they were coming. Then they were aggressive about how I could have lost him, and were angry that I hadn't knocked on doors in my neighborhood that I already knew nobody lived at.

Still, appreciative, but not changing my plans. Head to print MY flyers at my office. While there, Animal control calls me, lets me know they have him.

I call home to tell my bf, he says there are more of them here now. puts me on the phone with someone who says the dog will not be released to me, that they will make sure of it, and it is an "almost legal" thing. exact words.

I call animal control and tell them I want to pick my dog up. they say someone from the rescue group has arranged to pick the dog up.

I have a contract and the microchip in my name. the contract states legal responsibility and liability ended for the rescue group on 11/12/13.

I had to send copies to animal control to get them to agree release the dog to me.

The aggressive rescue group person who talked to me said "We are taking the reigns on this. We will arrange for the dog to go to the vet. You'll get him when we are done"...This was a random volunteer. And she was rabid. I said, I what if this dog gets loose again in years? Are you going to demand custody again? She said yes.

I didn't get a dog to share. I got a dog that I am responsible for. I am paying the fine. The level of aggression was crazy. i am leaving a lot of the aggressive talk out.

But to show up without calling or emailing (they had my phone number and email address) and just decide the dog goes back to them.....

Man. You had to be in disbelief.

Dog people can be real weirdos in a militant way. We have a bunch of them in our neighborhood. The pool had a dog swim at year end, so I took the Galoot -he is friendly, but does the usual dog stuff, sniffing each others junk. Anyway, the dog weirdos always claim to know which dog is at fault for dogs doing a quick snarl at each other. Another neighbor dog weirdo selling organic herbal dog shampoo.

Coming across other dog walkers is a pain in the ass and no fun. They want your dog to say Hi to theirs. But get offended when Galoot does his quick reverse mount. That is why we walk at 11 @night now.

I still am in disbelief. I love that they care about animals this much. But you don't show up at someone's home with no warning thanksgiving morning.

Their help was awesome, but had nothing to do with finding the dog.

Trying to militantly take over the dog...I can't recommend this organization.

My whole day was a disaster and all I did was cement my legal basis for ownership and cry.

Dog rescues can be pretty intense. When I adopted my dog I had to fill out a pretty lengthy application. Then there was an in-house interview where someone from the rescue came over with a dog (not the dog we wanted yet) to talk to us and see how a dog likes my home. They went in the backyard and inspected the fence to make sure there was no place for a dog to get out.

Then after I got approved to adopt a dog, I finally got to select which dog I wanted. Then the foster parents came over with that dog to see how he reacted to being at my house. Then I had to wait a week to say yes, that is the dog I really wanted and they finally brought him over for good.

Then of course I got an email every month for a year asking how he was doing and making sure he was ok.

It was pretty crazy, he was living on the streets before I adopted him, you'd think they would just be happy someone wanted to take care of him.
