stepson is picking up the Doggy doo Bordeaux from the breeder in KC on his way home for Christmas. Can't wait til I find puppy [expletive] all over the basement when he leaves.

Our lab, the Big Galoot was flying thru this snow, almost like it didn't exist. Just a quick shake and his coat is snow-free. His paws can be susceptible, not quite seasoned, but I could see a feral version of him making it in the wild. Almost every other day on our walks I'll notice he's walking around with dead squirrel remains - he roots around in leaf piles and finds the cache left by the foxes.

Then there is Mr. Fuzzypants. Loves to venture out, but would be dead in the snow within minutes. I had to carry him back home shivering and shaking. But if I grabbed the leash now, undoubtedly he'd eagerly go right back outside towards his impending doom.

I love that too. Our lab was like that, she wasn't supposed to get on the furniture but once in a while she would do something like that. You could see how sheepish she was, and somehow she thought she was doing it unnoticed even though she was over 60 lbs and would ram into you and knock things over. Once situated, the sheepish look stayed and she would just glance up at you real quick out of the corner of her eye to see if you noticed. When she was older I would just stare at her, she would get all nervous repeatedly glancing up to see if I was still staring and then she finally would just rest her head on my lap and then it was over - she was staying. No way I could shoo her off after that.

Thursday will be one year since we lost her and I still miss her. Best dog ever, really.
