5th in UZR among MLB SS. Something else that's really impressive is he has the 3rd most OOZ plays despite being 86 and 193 innings behind the two players ahead of him.AWvsCBsteeeerike3 wrote:UZR/150 = 9.3. Hmmm, guess I hadn't checked in a while. I thought he was well off last years pace, but seems to be doing ok.AWvsCBsteeeerike3 wrote:UZR/150 = 9.3. Pretty good for having a bad month or so in the field.vinsanity wrote: Except he's been pretty bad defensively this year as well.

He had a few bad weeks when he started taking his hitting frustrations with him out onto the fieldvinsanity wrote:Hmmm, guess I hadn't checked in a while. I don't think Houston will give up Oswalt the way the D-Backs gave up Haren. The only reason the Astros have been listening to offers is to please Oswalt. They can just as easily come to him after the trade deadline and say "We tried, but you know we can't afford to give you up for less than you're worth". If they want to deal him, they can wait until the off-season if they don't get an offer they like. It'll only cost them like $6 mil this year to hold onto him, and the fall in attendance they'd have by dealing away the face of their franchise I'm sure outweighs that.

Oswalt's starts haven't been drawing more fans than any other games, actually. Houston is a 5th place team, and fans don't really care who is pitching on any given night. Waiting until the off-season could be risky for a couple of reasons. Oswalt has had a great first half, putting up better numbers than he has in about 5 years. Maintaining that level in the second half of this year isn't likely, and so his value could decline. Or he could be injured, and end up having no value at all.cards2468 wrote:He had a few bad weeks when he started taking his hitting frustrations with him out onto the fieldvinsanity wrote:Hmmm, guess I hadn't checked in a while. Personally, I think his value is at its highest right now, with several teams locked in tight pennant races. If they wait until the off-season, teams are more likely to try to sign a 16 million dollar free agent pitcher, rather than give up prospects for one.

Except then you give up your first round pick....which is essentially the same as giving up a Shelby Miller/whoever we gave up for Holliday/etc if you scout and draft properly (which the Cardinals don't always do....see kozma, ottavino, etc.)Socnorb11 wrote: If they wait until the off-season, teams are more likely to try to sign a 16 million dollar free agent pitcher, rather than give up prospects for one.

Plus, there are fewer teams in need of pitching right now, so demand is higher.Socnorb11 wrote:Personally, I think his value is at its highest right now, with several teams locked in tight pennant races. tell that to the Nats and Stephen StrasburgSocnorb11 wrote:fans don't really care who is pitching on any given night.
there might not be a significant spike in attendance when Oswalt is on the mound, but when fans see the face of the organization traded away, they might be less inclined to go to games in general even if Oswalt wouldn't have been scheduled to pitch on the days they might go, but I know if the Astros are in town and I'm feeling the need to get tickets to a game, I'll look into who the projected starters are and generally I like to see the best pitchers from the opposing team (or at least any game where our big 3 are pitching)

I think we've had a thread on this before, but what sites do you check to get breaking trade news or most reputable rumors?

I use twitter to follow the likes of DGoold and Joe Strauss and others to get immediate updates and rumors, but truthfully, I think GRB is the best for Cards rumors since a lot of the [expletive] gets filtered out by posters here.
