I hope he listens to some Van Morrison while celebrating.
That was one for the ages. There was a tournament's worth of drama on Sunday alone. Jaw-dropping developments throughout. Three times Rory McIlroy did something that should have crushed his soul and lead to crash and burn. Three times he righted himself and did something amazing. There were 3 or 4 other incredible story lines today that I won't mention.
When you have half a day to kill, go to www.Masters.com and spin up the 5 hours of the McIlroy / Dechambeau twosome. You won't regret it.
Watching Rose fight back and put himself into the playoff was also great theater. Crazy to think that if he makes another putt he would've won in regulation.
I thought when Rory hit into the bunker on 18 and then missed the putt that he was starting to wobble and would tip over in the playoff. That iron shot on the playoff hole to give himself a similar putt was pretty incredible.
You're right, many a Sunday it comes down to two or three players, so seeing all the drama of people moving up and down the board was pretty great.
I live in North West England and the next two Opens after this year are within a 30 minute drive of where I live.
I went with my dad to the Friday before the cut the last time it was at Royal Lytham in 2012. We just turned up and paid on the door.
We sat on a stand at the 5th green and pretty much watched any golfer you can name play the hole. My dad was waiting for Tom Watson. He went through and we went to the 18th to watch them all finish their rounds.
The accuracy is scary, even the "terrible" players going out the tournament were putting the ball within 20 feet of the hole.
Tiger Woods chipped in from a bunker and the place went wild.
I presume with how things are these days it will be about £150 per ticket, but if the weather holds (stop laughing at the back!) it is a great day out.
