Ordered Two Legends and a Fredbird. Decided to delay gratification on the crackwiches and have the Fredbird first. Lo an behold Legrands screwed up my order!

and what I got instead of the Fredbird was [expletive] incredible! Its a bit of a mystery. I think it was someone else rolling their own, and I hail your genius. It was like the Legend without the pastrami and more turkey dominant, doubled up the bacon and had some onion and lettuce on there. It was the crackwich on crack.

Deli loyalty in South City is no trivial matter. Which is better, Mom's (4412 Jamieson) or LeGrand's (4414 Donovan)? Debates are fierce. Feelings can get hurt.

The always-impartial Gut Check will now preside over a deli duel between these two venues based on a apples-to-apples comparison: The Mom's Special vs. The Legrand's Special.

I used to get into arguments with an ex girlfriend about this. I can't believe anyone would prefer Mom's.

Mom's is crap. The only time I would get a sandwich from there is for a float trip. As I recall, the beer was cheaper there.

I kinda agree with the others. Mom's is OK, but nothing special at all.

Lots of awesome sammich shops in south city. Mom's being incredibly average just doesn't make the cut.

I've never even heard of Mom's. Legrands and Blues City Deli are fantastic.

Driving past Mom's on the way to Legrands I always think "should I give them another shot?" But then the Legend beckons.
