Notice all of those people outside of two with historic defenses and good running games are all before the modern, passing era that we exist in now.

I would certainly take a great quarterback over any of the above but there is more than one way to skin a cat. And, as has been repeatedly proven, being hailed as the next QB Messiah (sorry, Tim) is no guarantee that things will translate to the NFL.

Still, I basically agree that Denver might as well be running the Wing T out there. It ain't going to get it done for long. IMO.

Still trying to figure out if Tebow's Wonderlic score was off the charts high, low or they just forgot to put it in his chart.

Making the playoffs, which it looks like the broncos will do, gets them closer to winning the superbowl than going 3-13 or whatever. period.

No. This isn't baseball. Having a potentially elite quarterback (dare I list the names of Super Bowl winning quarterbacks for you?) gets you closer to a superbowl than 9-7/10-6 with a guy who can't beat elite teams in the playoffs without an act of extreme fortune (god, for all the Tebow disciples) occuring.

Is your argument that it is better to be 0-16 than to make the playoffs so you can have the #1 pick? Of your list of super awesome unbeatable elite must have QBs, I believe only the brothers Manning went #1 in their drafts....maybe elway, that was a while ago. And, other than those three, I don't even think any of the other one were drafted as the first QB in the draft.

There's zero guarantee that Luck will be in the same class as Roethlisberger, Manning, Brady, Favre, Elway, etc. Further, how many of those QB's you listed were even the first QB taken in their respective drafts? I put somewhat close to where they were taken by their names.

Dilfer, one of your not special QBs, was taken 6th. I'm not saying Luck won't be good, but to annoint him the next John Elway is foolish. Give me a playoff berth in 2011 before giving me Luck in 2012....every year. Plenty of elite QBs come from outside the top couple picks.

I believe I was thinking of the agility tests, not the Wonderlic. That's my mistake...... I was basing it off of my memory, which isn't very good.


Edit: I'm still basing this off of memory. I'm at work, and have an article at home that discusses "something", but I don't recall what it is.

Since it's all but impossible to trade for or sign those guys via free agency, the quickest route to getting one, is by drafting one. Since your draft strategy is apparently "Hindsight is the only thing that matters, scouting is bull [expletive]" I guess you shouldn't care where your draft pick is. Myself, I would prefer to pick as high as possible to give my scouts the best chance at getting the perceived best quarterback available.

I'm not saying I would rather have the #24 pick or the #199 pick or the #33 pick than the #1 pick because that's where Rodgers, Brady and Brees were picked. I'm just pointing out there are a lot of QBs that aren't picked #1 and in fact aren't even the most highly sought after QBs in their class. Scouts aren't perfect and their high opinions of someone shouldn't prevent me from wanting to win this year.

Myself, I would prefer to pick as high as possible to give my scouts the best chance at getting the perceived best quarterback available.

My strategy pure and simple would be to win now and address my future needs when I can while winning, not at the cost of it.

Honestly I don't know. I think yes. The problem is that Denver realistically was never as bad as their early record indicated. They would have had to actively tank because that defense is nasty. I wouldn't actively tank a season. However, if I was the Colts or a team like that, I'd certainly rather go 1-15 than 6-10 or something like that.
