Three high schoolers???? Someone musta hacked into the St. Louis war room computers and made the picks for them. Whens the last time we drafted three high school kids with the first three picks?

Welp, the Cardinals did the smart thing in a very mediocre draft- go for upside at reasonable prices.

I love Plummer who has a lightning quick bat, with a smooth, short stroke. He has a great approach at the plate and will probably be a guy that walks a lot. I think he has a shot to stick in CF, though his arm is really short. His defensive ability is basically Jon Jay. I didn't think this would be a guy on our radar just on precedence and the fact that several college arms fell. I had this kid in the top-15.

Woodford was a helium guy who is big and athletic with velocity. He also commands his pitches really well. He plays for a powerhouse program that I am quite familiar with (Tampa Plant sends kids to all three of the Big 3 Florida schools). His teammate is a big time prospect, but Woodford was really the leader of the team. 6-5 with a good frame, and he holds his velocity deep into games. I think MLB.com is light on his ranking because he just stayed consistent game-after-game. A two pitch guy right now in a fastball that he keeps down and a slider. His changeup needs a ton of work. He's quite a bit different than Jack Flaherty, but has nice upside. He profiles as a #3 starter with a nice ceiling with continued development.

Bryce Denton is surprising to me. Another kid with a big commitment, I wonder if the Cardinals are going signability from here on out. He's a right handed hitter with a bit of a long speed. Weird timing mechanism and he's out on his front foot way too much for me. He's physical, he has some pop- especially pull side- but he doesn't profile as an overall great player due to a fringe arm, fringe speed, and an aggressive approach that doesn't show plus plate discipline. I'm not a fan of this pick because I don't love the player, but also because he's a Vandy commit that will cost us a lot of money to sign. He's limited to an OF corner, and won't be a 3B as some have stated.

I really like the fact we went with high school upside in a down draft. Maybe not the guys I would've taken necessarily, but I like the overall plan thus far. Jon Harris was getting all the love on the broadcast, and I was thrilled to see a full 60 seconds of Missouri State love, but Harris has never really been the ace of his own team. Nick Petree, then Cody Schumacher, then Matt Hall all were better pitchers on his own team. In fact, Harris pitched out of the bullpen some last year. Matt Hall led the country in strikeouts this year, came up big in every big moment, and had lots of confidence in himself. He's a guy I'd be taking in the 3rd round or so and loving it. He was the Cape All-Star- not Jon Harris- and he was the guy who walked into Arkansas and shut them down.

Not that it's a surprise, but Plummer says he will sign with the Cardinals and not play for Kentucky. Just going to take some time to do it.

We didn't sign a single HS position player we drafted last year.
