I'd suggest he view them more like gift knives view his thumb. (Not really, I just want to play with Matheny lore, too.)Johnconrad wrote:The problem is, the front office "believes" this is the 4.0 WAR 2011 version of Matt Holliday - and it isn't.
The price is ONLY going to go up - as will the volume of excuses.
Personally, I'd get rid of this ridiculous hitting coach and see if someone with a clue can help Adams, Grichuk, and Piscotty develop into real major league hitters.
It will not happen with #26 at the helm.
He views his favorite coaches the same way he views Chesterfield Valley real estate.
I hope he does and puts "[expletive] Face Mc [expletive] erson" as the name on the back.CardsofSTL wrote:Speaking of #26...is he going back to #22?
This seems like its right up the cards alleyFOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Cuban outfielder Lazaro Armenteros has been cleared by Major League Baseball and is eligible to sign starting February 10.
There was a chance that "Lazarito" was going to have to wait until the July 2 signing period, but he's apparently received the good news that it won't be that long. Armenteros won't turn 17 until May, so he's obviously a long ways away from debuting in the majors. However, he's viewed as a five-tool player with loads of upside. For what it's worth, ESPN's Eric Longenhagen reported Sunday that reviews of Armenteros' January 8 showcase for major league teams were "mixed at best."

When you look at what's out there and how that fits with us, it's really not ideal. So in terms of directionally where we take this, it's something we'll try to keep the pulse of. Ultimately, though, I'm not all that bullish on chasing something at this time."
"We feel we have the right pieces," Mozeliak said. "I know that some people disagree and want us to do something else, but Matt Adams, having [Brandon] Moss, giving [Randal] Grichuk an opportunity to be the everyday center fielder feels right to us. If we go out and add an outfielder, where are they going to play? Who is not playing? How does that affect us? What does the short-term view look like compared to the long-term commitment? And honestly, we feel very comfortable with what we have."
"There may be times when something becomes available that makes sense for us to pursue," Mozeliak acknowledged. "I don't think anybody upstairs is closing the book on anything, but I would also caution people to understand we're not hotly pursuing anything, either. We're following markets. We're paying attention. And if it leads us to something, great. But we're certainly comfortable going in with what we have."
