Re: World Cup 2026
For the record, I don't think he deserved a red card. But at the same time it is a judgement call, and history is littered with other examples of questionable red cards where the player served out their suspension.
I don't think politicians should interfere with rulings in sports, whether that be the World Cup, Olympics, NFL, whatever. It is particularly bad when they are the host country of an international event. I have a list 12 miles long of reasons I despise Trump, but it hardly smacks of "TDS" when people don't appreciate him sticking his nose where it doesn't belong on this one.

Yes, I think they should review suspensions. But unless they are now doing it for all red cards, then it is a bad look to do it for one particular host country while not doing it for any others.AWvsCBsteeeerike3 wrote: ↑July 10 26, 11:33 am
People can say it's a bad look for FIFA and the US. But, it's not. It's stupid that they don't have a way, even though they obviously do, to review suspensions. I mean....certainly we can agree on that, no?

Re: World Cup 2026
They also did it for Portugal/Ronaldo. Hopefully they do add a way to challenge/review calls like this. Or, as you noted, review them all.
Last thing I'd say about trump because I don't want to continue steering the convo in the wrong direction. But, during the BIH game, I tweeted trump. I think I've sent about 3 tweets in 3 years but man I was fired up and man I just wanted justice for Balogun so he could play again. I'd say there's a precisely 0% chance this tweet was read by trump. But, I have no doubt there was a flood of similar tweets.

Ronaldo keeps getting brought up, but it was a different situation, and took place months ago. And in the end karma took hold there too, as the game he would have been suspended for in group play, Portugal played to an embarrassing draw with people questioning if Ronaldo should have been benched.

This is the argument I don't understand.Popeye_Card wrote: ↑July 10 26, 11:57 amFor the record, I don't think he deserved a red card. But at the same time it is a judgement call, and history is littered with other examples of questionable red cards where the player served out their suspension.
History is littered with all sorts of injustice, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't demand justice now and moving forward.

Re: World Cup 2026
It is one player for one soccer match. I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.
I was pretty damn pissed when the Blues lost game 3 of the 2019 WCFs due to one of the most blatant hand passes in NHL history that went uncalled, with hand passes not being a reviewable play under NHL rules (which is dumb). But I didn't call my senator to demand he talk to Gary Bettman.

Some feel good clips of international fans having a good time.
