A source tells Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com that the Phillies have agreed to send three players to the Astros for Roy Oswalt.
J.A. Happ is one of them. According to Rosenthal, the Astros will also cover a "very significant" portion of the $23 million-plus remaining on Oswalt's contract. Now we wait to hear if Oswalt agrees to waive his no-trade clause.

Re: Trade Rumors - Cards looking at Oswalt?
Here's a word-of-mouth rumor I found passed around:
Phils receive:
SP Roy Oswalt (Phils agree to renegotiate 2012 buyout from $2M to $5M)
2B/Utility Jeff Keppinger
Cash Consideration of $8M (roughly half of Oswalt's remaining 2010 salary plus buyout)
Astros Receive:
1B Jon Singleton
P JA Happ
P Scott Mathieson
OF Anthony Gose
Astros have given Oswalt until 1PM EST tomorrow to accept or decline.

Where do those guys rank as prospects? Would this be like Craig, Garcia, Salas and Jones?Kyle wrote:Here's a word-of-mouth rumor I found passed around:Phils receive:

Singleton is probably the best position player prospect the Phillies have outside of Brown, but he's in low-A. Mathieson and Gose are filler. Happ has enjoyed some big league success, but he's been bothered by injuries this season and was in Triple-A while the Phillies were giving Kyle Kendrick starts two weeks ago.

Re: Trade Rumors - Cards looking at Oswalt?
Happ's not quite Garcia. Garcia had higher upside (from a prospect perspective), and I think Garcia has performed better in the majors as well.
Happ had a 2.93 in 2009, but had a 4.33 FIP and a 4.49 xFIP.
Garcia has a 2.33 this year, with a 3.41 FIP and a 3.76 xFIP.
Garcia is obviously not this good, but I think he could legitimately be a pretty solid starter. I think Happ is more of a back end guy.

Re: Trade Rumors - Cards looking at Oswalt?
Well, Mathieson would be like Salas.
Happ is obviously the key to the deal. We don't have anyone like him to offer... Garcia would be the closest.
Singleton is having quite a season at A ball as an 18 year old (944). He looks like he might be quite the prospect down the road, but I don't know anything about him. I don't know who our equivalent player might be. Craig, maybe, but the age difference is huge.
Gose is a speedster, but a high draft pick; 2nd round. A project player, it looks like.
Seems like the Stros did ok. Singleton might equate to Miller (though Miller is a better prospect). Happ would be Garcia. Gose would be a throw in. We wouldn't have wanted to make this kind of deal.

So if Oswalt says no then is he in effect saying it's the Cards or I'm staying put?
