I think he'll accept, but I'm guessing if he says no, it means "I want to be sent to somebody in a better position to make the playoffs, with my preference being StL" and will instead end up being stuck with the Astros for at least another half of a seasonRadbird wrote:So if Oswalt says no then is he in effect saying it's the Cards or I'm staying put?

That's possible, but I really doubt that's going to happen. There's very little incentive to stay in Houston at this point. Even if Philly misses the playoffs, they're still in line to have a very good shot at making it next season. The same can obviously not be said for Houston.Radbird wrote:So if Oswalt says no then is he in effect saying it's the Cards or I'm staying put?

Happ is not Garcia. Not even close. Happ is four years older, struggled with an injury this season and was demoted to Triple-A where he performed at a subpar level. His walks are way up and his peripherals are awful. He screams immediate injury risk even more than Garcia does.

I was just saying that Garcia is the closest thing that we have to Happ. Which is one of the reasons why the Phill's are able to make this deal and the Cards wouldn't even consider it. If we had a player closer to Happ, we might have been able to pull it off. We don't so we didn't.jagtrader wrote:Happ is not Garcia. Not even close. It's unfortunate we don't have a crappy marginal ML lefty prospect to trade for Roy.

Re: Trade Rumors - Cards looking at Oswalt?
they're selling high on Happ, even though he hasn't had as good a year this year than last. He strikes me as a sub Lohse guy long term.
I've read other versions of the deal that don't include Singleton.
I don't understand the deal if Houston is paying part of his salary. They're not getting enough back to do that. If it were just a salary dump without them having to pay I could understand the package, unless they like Happ as much as Arizona likes Saunders.

It's more likely a case of Wade overvauling Happ. Wade drafted him, after all.Fat Strat wrote:I was just saying that Garcia is the closest thing that we have to Happ. Which is one of the reasons why the Phill's are able to make this deal and the Cards wouldn't even consider it. Maybe Happ wears a Stetson and carries a six shooter. Houston fans would like that.
