Don't get the steak sandwich. Also - when the wait staff asks "How is everything?", it's just a generic thing they say. They don't really want to know how everything is, because when I told them and my other buddy agreed she didn't really care. Which I don't blame her, I wouldn't care either. She ain't the one who paid for it. Sort of like when you ask someone how they are, you really don't want to hear how they are. You want to hear "Fine, how are you?". Anything else goes in one ear and out the other.
I actually do know both owners quite well and they would both want to know if your sandwich sucked. Okay, maybe not the Irish prick.
They have to know it sucks. There is no way to eat that sandwich and say to yourself - "Oh that's a nice balance between bread and meat". You are like choking on the bread - and it's tough and chew like concentration camp bread.
I don't buy it. Chintzy. That's what I think was. Chintzy on the meat.
Never understand when a place can't figure out the meat/bread ratio and I'm not one of you guys that thinks a sandwich needs to have a pound of meat on it a la Crown Candy's blt.
Example would be a good banh mi. Not a ton of meat add the veg and spice but the bread is light with crispy crust.
Try that steak sandwich and tell me it isn't too bready. I was there with 5-6 guys and I saw most everyone picking stuff of their sandwich. I think they overthink stuf. I'm not sure anyone loved what they got, but at least for most of them the bar wasn't set at "St. Louis' Best Sandwich".

As for Dubliner, I've never liked that place. Although I've also never eaten there. I've only been there late at night when the place is so packed that you can't move and it takes forever to get a drink. Definitely not a fair take on the place on my part.
My brother works in the Kitchen at Quincy street. He loves working there.
