Re: Trade Rumors - Cards looking at Oswalt?
I can't believe there are no other league average to mediocre starters available other than Jake Westbrook. I'm sick of hearing his name. There are 29 other teams.

I think it's just a lack of rumors more than anything. There are other starters available, "Westbrook" has just become the name used for "mediocre starter on crappy team who's probably better than Hawksworth".planet pujolsian wrote:I can't believe there are no other league average to mediocre starters available other than Jake Westbrook. I'm on the Livan Hernandez bandwagon and there are a lot of empty seats.planet pujolsian wrote:I can't believe there are no other league average to mediocre starters available other than Jake Westbrook. I'm sick of hearing his name. There are 29 other teams.

Well, Brian Bannister, Jeremy Guthrie, and Kevin Millwood have all been mentioned as possibilities. As mediocre as Westbrook has been, he's been better than that Triumverate of Horse [expletive].
There's also Fausto Carmona, who is basically Jake Westbrook with a larger price tag.
And Oswalt.
So there you go.

As I mentioned in the Other Games thread, the Rockies might be sellers.

Cook and Beimel would be interesting.

Cook should come cheap with his off year, but he's been consistently just above average over his career. I'd be interested if we can get the Rockies to pay some of his salary, I believe he's due $10 mil next year and has a 2012 option.

Geez... $11 million going with Oswalt. I want to see how these deal looks in the end. Phils might be making out better than I originally thought.

Wouldn't mind taking a look at Jorge De La Rosa either. Slightly younger than Cook, lefty with a very high K rate (and a high walk rate). I could see him figuring things out and actually being a solid 4 starter, where-as Cook will be more like 2010 Cook from here on out than 2009 Cook.
