Halfway through season 2 of Breaking Bad.
Am I the only who feels really bad for Jesse moreso than Walt. At least after the first few episodes. He's not the smartest kid in the world, but it seems like he gets put in bad situations cause everyone just kinda craps on him. No matter what happens he always cuts it even - more fair to Walt than the other way around.

Revisit this post at the end of season 2, and pretty much throughout season 3.vinsanity wrote:Halfway through season 2 of Breaking Bad.

Some really bad, sad things happen to Jessie. He's always the one who ends up getting his ass kicked for the duo's exploits. Obviously he and Walt have a sort of father-son relationship going on. Jessie is impulsive and Walt recognizes that those impulses will get him and the business into trouble, but he's terrible at communicating with Jessie. He just tells him "absolutely not" or something like that which usually causes Jessie to go and do it anyway. In the end Walt does his best to protect Jessie, has his back, and vice versa.vinsanity wrote:Halfway through season 2 of Breaking Bad.

Their whole dynamic is a lot of fun to watch and they're both incredibly good actors.

I'm at about the same point through the series as you are vin. Sure look forward to seeing how it plays out (and for Season 3 to come out on Blu-Ray!).vinsanity wrote:Halfway through season 2 of Breaking Bad.

Agreed, with the exception of the boat episode. That was classic Always Sunny because it pushed the boundaries of taste and taboo, "the implication..." For the most part though the series has just become sort of Seinfeldian. Today the gang makes a podcast, or Dennis gets married, or they can't get into the fancy pool, etc. Not in the same league as Dennis and Dee getting addicted to crack or Mac trying to pick up chicks at the abortion clinic. Another problem is that the hilarious supporting characters like Rickety Cricket, the McPoyles, Artemis, the waitress, etc. have all but disappeared except for occasional cameos. Without those characters for the gang to have some sort of conflict with the episodes are just them bickering amongst themselves. My final beef is with Dennis, or the actor who plays him. I'd have to go back and watch the first couple of seasons to be sure but I don't think he used to be such a bad comedian. His timing is awful now and all he does is shout all the time. It's very manic and he ruins what might otherwise be funny scenes by overacting.Sutter'sBeard wrote:All my favorite comedies have been garbage so far this season.
Always Sunny: What the hell has happened. I don't even know where to start it has been so bad.

No, he was always by far the worst actor of the bunch and prone to overacting. He's one of the few actors I've seen able to overdo a simple reaction shot.
I don't think the problem is the plotlines or the lack of ancillary characters, it's just that the writing isn't up to par. It happens, and as long as it stays at the current level the show will be worth watching. It'd be great if they got some great new writing talent and returned to their previous level, but I don't see how that happens.
