I never really thought we had a chance to get Oswalt anyway; it's just a shame that we've clearly decided to put all our eggs in the Kyle Lohse comeback basket.

Yeah, pretty much. His numbers basically stayed the exact same when he went to Las Vegas, which is like the old Coors Field of AAA. His prospect status was really always in spite his numbers, but at this point his numbers translate to him hitting like Neifi Perez.

However - if there's on ML park where Wallace might be successful in, it's Enron Field. I can easily see him hitting a few into those stupid Crawford boxes.

Clearly this was comparable to Shelby Miller and a couple more prospects for Oswalt and $0.
(chuckle) yeah, there was a brief series of posts wondering about how Wade settled for so little, and wondering if Wade's history with Happ influenced his judgment, etc ... I was thinking "no, this outcome is the unneeded affirmation that CP's description of how teams are valuing veteran contracts needs to be reckoned with."
I don't doubt that the numbers make sense on some level, but I wouldn't have thought the average GM would be willing to make a move like this if only due to the public scrutiny. To the average Houston fan and sports reporter, Wade just gave up a top tier pitcher and 11 million for JA Happ. I can't imagine that goes over well with most of them, whatever the actual merits.

After a quick glance around, Rotoworld and Richard Justice don't like it. Fangraphs does, on the whole.

Which is why he's been considered by most as a DH. I guess the Astros see him as a 1B.

I haven't been following Wallace so I'm not sure what to make of his prospects -- but in apx one year he went from a status where many wanted him in the bigs playing for us every day/reluctant to include him in a trade for a major leaguer with a lifetime 950 OPS, to traded for the third time, this time in exchange for a toolsy 19 year old not doing so hot in low A ball.

That's a big drop in value.

I'm seeing a lot of comments on Fangraphs supporting the notion that the Astros got fleeced. The write-up on Houston's perspective isn't exactly glowing either.

So the moral of the story is that Shelby Miller is a lock to be an ace?
