I'm not going to lie, aside from weather, Chicago, as a city, has St. Louis beat in many areas, but it's still a lack of class to say your rival city is a [expletive] hole. You can't deny they've made comments that really lack class.
I guess we can write it off as they're really frustrated they're getting their ass handed to them in the standings by a team with a smaller budget and far less media glamour.

When are Prior and Wood scheduled back?
this got lost in the shuffle of Board Wars '09, but that was a quality post.

I really, really don't care about what is said on the Cubs board. Doesn't bother me if they have trolls, doesn't interest me if they're classy or not. The internet is a free country, or something. If NSBB was a better place to talk abseball and other assorted nonsense, I'd be there.

I'll take St. Louis 9 times out of 10. I don't care much for Chicago from what I've seen of it so far and am looking forward to moving out in three years. They've got some damn good pizza and hot dogs, but that's about it. Impossible to drive and way too expensive to live here.

Anyway, in response to this thread in general: the internet is serious business.
hyperbole I hope. Pizza and hot dougs? if pizza is what you are raving about you need to see more of the city than gino's east
Ugh i just cant stand chicago pizza, only thing worse is Imo's
l guess you can take st louis. i love that city, but it is just a smaller not as cool version of chicago.
Chicago has better food, better theatre, musuems, universitys, awesome ethnic neighborhoods, great cheap eat, public transportation, the lakefront, etc
I would easily raise a family in the lou- cheaper and less traffic, but outside of that I cant think of anything where st louis beats chicago. Sure there is some traffic, but ride a bike take a train or a bus
oh [expletive]
st louis wins
Why it has the Cards

Chicago is a great place - used to live there and loved it. It's kinda expensive at times, sure. But it's a great city.
As for NSBB, I did enjoy going there. But I think the frustration has built up (with the last couple playoffs, and the current failure), and it's hurting the board. As others have mentioned, anything goes up there that doesn't fly here. I was a member up there for a number of years and was banned during the HR derby of all things. No warning. All of a sudden, I'm a troll. Apparently, baseball was cheating for AP.
There are a number of great posters there. But there are a few who are loud mouthed whiny buffoons. They are just as trashy as any WhiteSox or Cardinal fan that they make fun of. Listening to these guys, the Cubs are the only team that doesn't cheat, the team baseball likes to screw, etc. It's pathetic.
They are the minority, but that's the way it works.
Anyway, sorry I missed the fun last night. All hail Kevin Gregg. Has he reached Izzy status yet?

Chicago is a joke. Try standing outside a bar smoking a cigarette on the south side sometime, you'll see how tight it is when bums try to steal your cigarettes and infect you with AIDS (ok, the AIDS part was a joke, but there are some sickening people that come way too close to your face). The only nice part of it is the north side, and even then, the amount of people, traffic, pollution, and immense expenses are beyond disgusting.

Some hyperbole (it was at 2:00 something AM) but I'm not exaggerating too much. I'd like to know where the cheap eats are you're talking about; I've never seen prices as high as they are for food here (10% sales tax makes it hard to eat anything here on the cheap). Living a block from the lakefront beach is nice, I'll grant you that.
And all of those things you mention do have merit, but those can be had just the same by visiting. When you live in/near them, they seem to lose a lot of their shine, IMO.
Anyway. I'll stop hijacking the thread with this subject if folks choose. Just wanted to respond to the "St. Louis is a [expletive] compared to Chicago" argument. You can make arguments that Chicago is better and it's different strokes for different folks, but St. Louis is not a [expletive] by any stretch. As Cards2468 pointed out, Cubs fans saying it is at this point is just a sign of bitterness and frustration.

Chicago and St. Louis both have their good aspects... and their not-so-good aspects.
St. Louis is dangerous... but there's definitely some areas of Chicago that I'd definitely take the worst of St. Louis over. Chicago has some great areas that aren't butting up to bad areas the way some of the nicer areas of St. Louis do. Chicago is a lot of fun; I really enjoy visiting it... and I think that's the best way for me to appreciate it. I think I'd not like it as much if I lived there, but that's just me, and I definitely don't fault anybody that would rather live in Chicago.
I saw a comment about universities... Chicago does have some fine schools, but I'd say Wash U./SLU aren't exactly the worst schools out there (despite how much I [expletive] about SLU).
BTW, I have a bunch of family that lives north of the city. I just stayed with my uncle this past weekend, and he pointed out to me down the street where a 16 yr old was shot to death in a drive by and also where a house burnt down after the car in the driveway mysteriously exploded. People familiar with Chicago probably know exactly where he lives. I've had plenty of family in that neigborhood dating back to the 50's, and it's been on a decline the entire time. Real shame. My aunt also used to live south of the city. Her neighborhood was very nice. I had no problem walking around at any time of day/night. Just pointing out that it's not like north of the city is all incredible and all south of the city is a dump...

hyperbole from a wash u alum (and I do think that wash u holds its own against just about everyone-- and slu is a top notch catholic school) ,
but the University of Chicago + Northwestern+ UIC+ Depaul+ Loyola, etc
do kick Wash U, Slu and Umsl's collective asseses.
i hear you chronos, and really i was just defending chicago a bit-
as for cheap food. it isnt hard to find. You can easily spend entire paychecks on dinner, but there is a ton of competition for food in chicago and if you look around you can find really great cheap food. It might depend on what you mean by cheap food- if you are looking for a nice dinner for $5, well you can fuhgetaboutit- but otherwise if you look around you can find it (WBEZ member card is worth its weight in gold- lots of restaurants offer coupons, go get dimsum with friends, etc)
that said--nyc beats chicago's ass for cheap eats,
and i think that st louis is awesome, but damn chicago rocks- now if they just had some mountains around and better winter weather I would never complain.
