Rumor has it Dave hart (ut ad) went behind he boosters backs and made this hire. Big no-no. I fully expect that piece of [expletive] bammer Dave hart to lose his job over this whole matter.

Gruden was a more realistic possibility than people think.

Strong didn't like the academic-athletics tug of war.

Andy Reid was never an option.

Grundy was realistic because he's at odds with his AD.

Is Strong's resume that much better than Butch Jones's? Gundy just re-upped, didn't he? Andy Reid needs a year or two off. Gruden, he just loves getting all the boys to flirt with him but nobody's getting laid.

Strong was a DC under spurrier and Meyer in the SEC so his résumé is already leaps and bounds better than butch jones.

The thing that made Strong so appealing is that he was an Urban Meyer guy, and he's had success at Louisville. I don't think Butch Jones has that kind of pedigree. Not that I'm aware of, anyway.

And I'll budge on Strong a little as being a legit UT option. Actually, he was a great option for them and I was surprised he turned them down.

I'm not sure if you've been following this soap opera as closely as I was, but gundy is quickly wearing out his welcome. It was more than just using leverage. He feels as if he's being taken advantage if because he's a hometown coach.

The Tennessee fan base deserved a coaching search executed with effort, honesty, and with an eye toward actually hiring someone who could do the difficult job of coaching the Volunteers football team. That person, contrary to all reports, was never Gruden, who was at most offered the job by boosters before the AD could react, and then scuttled when it became clear that half the people involved in Tennessee football are barking, tree-licking insane people.

Then the university pursued three very difficult targets because when you have ambition, you aim at targets you might not hit. Charlie Strong was staying at Louisville from the jump because after two decades of being an assistant, the Cardinals gave him a shot, and Strong is legitimately attached on both an emotional and financial level to the university and the team. Mike Gundy is another excellent choice, but is a lifetime Oklahoma State alum and coach, and might have been angling for a well-deserved raise the whole time. Larry Fedora has been at UNC one year, and leaving after one year gets you a Kiffin/Graham mercenary tag.
