Kind of tired of the numbnut Nebraska fans who moaned that Solich and Pelini only got 9 wins a year. Yeah, just terrible. Look where they went after that.

The hilarity of Pelini's 9-and-4ever notwithstanding, I think he got the boot in part because of his behavior/sideline demeanor.

Solich really did just get fired because he wasn't Tom Osborne.

Tennessee (like Nebraska) hasn't quite learned that this is more or less who they are as a program now. The game and rules have changed and while their large attendance/fanbase gives them a reasonably high floor, they probably can't expect perennial 10 win seasons unless they hire an uncommonly good coach. Sure you can be a person/fanbase who demands that, but then you risk exposing yourself to the Dooleys, Rileys, Kiffins, and Callahans you're inevitably going to hire along the way.

If im not mistaken they have 2nd most revenue in college football.

Edit: 2nd most profitable, 9th in revenue.

We most definitely should expect 10 wins/season.

Sorry go birds. I can't think of a more cruel way to lose a game. When I headed for the stadium from the bar (OU game), Tennessee seemed to have all the momentum and I thought they would find a way to get it done.

On the bright side, I think one of the two "non-coastal" schools that Chip Kelly would actually consider is Tennessee (the other being Notre Dame). If you can find a way to beat UGA in a couple of weeks, maybe things will turn around. Your team has some athletes/players.....just needs some confidence/momentum against the better teams on the schedule.

I want Tennessee to lose every game from here on out so the AD gets their head out of their ass and realize that he's not the answer. That he is a mediocre used car salesman. He's stocked the cupboards for the next coach so it's time to move on.

You're an Oklahoma guy right? What were they saying about Bob Stoops' retirement? I'm not sure if it was ever confirmed as to why he suddenly quit.

Assuming he's available, he's at the top of my list.

I'd be ok with Chip Kelly. He'd prolly turn Guarantano into the next Mariota.

As funny as it may seem, Stoops' primary reason that he retired is because he wanted to spend more time with his family. He has as much money as God and his twin sons are seniors in high school this year.....both playing football. Thus, he is wanting to take in as much of that as he can.....because he can't get that time back. One of his son's is rumored to be going to Northwestern to play football as well. He and his wife purchased an additional property in Chicago in May of this year.....they already had one house there. And I think he plans to spend a few years watching his son play football and enjoy life.

I do think "health concerns" played a little bit of a role in his decision. He says he is healthy, but he did lose his father to a heart attack at a relatively early age. His father actually died on the sidelines of a football game in which his father was coaching. I don't think that there is any doubt that event had something to do with the decision as well.

Although the timing was a little strange, he did leave the keys of a ferrari to Lincoln Riley because he felt like the program was in good enough shape and on solid enough foundation for Riley to succeed in the short term. Riley has been being groomed for this position for several years.....but no one thought it would be this year obviously.

I do think Stoops will be back in football in some capacity in time....whether that is coaching, consulting, or even an AD position somewhere, but it will be several years out. He is a competitive guy and I think at some point, it will eat at him and he won't be able to stay away.

Leaving aside whether ND would hire Chip (normally I would say his NCAA malfeasance would DQ him, but they don't seem to care that Brian Kelly got the 2012-13 seasons vacated), I can say pretty definitively Chip Kelly wouldn't go anywhere near Notre Dame. Supposedly he didn't like the booster hobnobbing and other such off-field stuff involved in coaching college, and there's more of that there than anywhere else.

Not living in that part of the country, I didn't realize ND had alot of those "involved" types of boosters.....that need to be catered to. If that is the case, then Kelly certainly won't be going to any Texas schools anytime soon. That type of booster behavior/entitlement is fairly rampant in the big schools of the South.

Kentucky is 13th in revenue. 10 SEC teams, including 5 teams in the East, are in the Top 17. In most years Tennessee will play 3 teams(Bama, Florida, and one of aTm/LSU) who have higher revenue than them. aTm is number 1 by far(194 million, UT 140) and they have one ten win season in the last 18 years. Texas is number 2 and they're at 7 straight years without a 10 win season. Revenue/fanbase is not a birthright to excellent seasons. Not in today's game.
