Re: Dogs
Need some advice/input:
my 1.5 year old dog has recently become aggressive towards other dogs, especially ones bigger than him, BUT only when im around.
I took him to doggy daycare and told them to monitor to the situation to see how he responds to other dogs and they said he was fine--playful and full of energy and no trouble at all.
I'd love to believe that he's just being protective of his human, but not sure if that's actually the case.
I read this may just be part of his "adolescence" stage which im hoping that's just what it is because 1) i live in an apartment building where seemingly everyone has a dog and 2) i dont wanna pay a trainer to whisper the little [expletive].
Anyone else have the same experience with their pup? Or does this sound like something i need to address?

Big Galoot sometimes waits until he's very thirsty to drink. So he slops it up in a loud mess. But he's no dummy, he pauses during this, to listen and dart his eyes around in case there is a mountain lion sneaking up on him, then back to slop slurp slop

Re: Dogs
Your dog could actually catch the rabbits? Our lab never could, she spent her entire life chasing them and even blowing out her ACL when she was 10 going after one. Close, but no cigar. We had an electric fence which made it easy for the rabbits, amazing how smart they can be. They would go to my neighbors yard and stop and just stare at her to taunt her. She pretended to have won by chasing them off of our property but we all knew, including the rabbits, that it was an act.
We have talked about getting another dog, but our issue is we just don't have anyone to watch it. My parents are getting up there in age and some health issues, so I have been making alot more unplanned trips down to Springfield recently and I suspect those won't stop. We are just worried about having that responsibility.

Re: Dogs
I never saw him catch a rabbit but did see him catch a squirrel and pulled a bunny kill from him once. proBaby how he got worms. I used to let him loose on our walks and would hear the commotion in the woods. he'd be scarfing something down as quick as possible
I think what happened with rabbits is he would sniff out the rabbit hole and get bunnies. that seemed to be his tactic, not outrunning them, but sniffing them out and hitting them where they live. even today, he'll pull me over to some little hole or tuft of grass to check it out. the best was the time he went in the woods rummaged around and comes out with a big sub sandwich.
now it's a lot different. he'll just do a quick token jog at a rabbit

Re: Dogs
We had bunnies in the yard once right next to a swing set, and the dog found them. She pawed at them, and definitely wanted to do something, but she didn't. So we killed them the humane way by relocating the nest.

Re: Dogs
We now have 2 blind dogs.
The older one finally was confirmed with Cushing's disease. And a pituitary tumor. The blindness was caused by SARDS (sudden acquired retinal degeneration syndrome), a permanent condition.
Little sister has cataracts caused by her diabetes. Completely blind in left, down to shadows in right. We're having her tested next week to see if she's a candidate to have her lenses replaced and vision restored.
It's remarkable how well they're adapting.
