But this misses the general point.

Which is ... in a market where teams are looking to move pitchers in return for salary relief, you don't have to give up Miller to make a deal that helps.
From what we've seen so far, there's no way that Miller is even on the table. I doubt other teams are even asking for him. This market is playing well for us. Guys aren't going for big returns. A ball and AA talent are getting the job done. We have enough of that and better... We have some major league talent we can easily give.

Westbrook or Cook really shouldn't cost any more than Cantu and probably less than Capps because of the salaries involved.

And yet Oswalt is approving Philly as his trade destination... Although, honestly, I would rather see us going after an everyday player than a pitcher (plus maybe another reliever if we could find a good one or even a bad one - anything is better than the reyes express)

With Wallace going to Houston that very well could guarantee the Astros trying to move Berkman.

Heard this morning to either the White Sox or Rays.

White Sox are also close to landing Edwin Jackson.

Pretty team friendly contract, but he'd be better than Suppawksworth.

at this point, I'm ok with Maholm, Cook, and Westbrook, assuming they come very cheaply prospect wise. I'd really like any 2 of the 3.

I dunno, he's just always been pretty "meh"... which I guess is 10x better than the vomit-inducing quality of our bottom 2 starters

Kinda odd he's always averaged 89.3-89.6 mph on his fastball but this year he's down to 88.5 while posting his worst numbers in over 3 years (also worst GB/FB ratio in his career), but at 28 yrs old, I'm hopeful with some work with Dunc he can be a solid 4-5 starter.

Maholm isn't the pitcher that Cook or Westbrook are, with only one season with an era+ over 100 and just two more in the 90's. Salary is much more reasonable than the other guys next year and a team option after that where his salary doubles that we would almost certainly decline.

Beggars can't be choosers though and he fits what we need.
