Well this was unexpected.
I wonder what adding Yelich and Darvish would do for the Brew Crew's 2018 outlook. I think they'd still be a starter short at the least.

That's exactly what they were trying to do when they signed Heyward. It was neither smart nor successful.

Agree. It sure would be exciting though.letsgocards89 wrote: Well this was unexpected.

I think there's a 2% chance we land Yelich, and a .1% chance we land Darvish though.
I'm totally fine on the slow rebuild, but I think selling high on a couple guys may be wise this year. Either way they need to pick a lane.

Dean Deetz has been suspended 80 games for performance-enhancing drug use.
Deetz tested positive for Dehydrochlormethyltestosterone, also known as Oral Turinabol. The 24-year-old right-hander had a 4.25 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, and 97/50 K/BB ratio in 84 2/3 innings last season between Double-A Corpus Christi and Triple-A Fresno, and he was added to the Astros' 40-man roster in November. Deetz was an 11th-round pick in 2014 out of Northeast Oklahoma A&M.

Chris Archer told Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times that he does not expect to be traded before the start of the 2018 season.
Archer was certainly shopped around this winter, but the Rays' asking price has remained sky high even after a couple of somewhat underwhelming seasons. The 29-year-old right-hander is under contract through potentially 2021. "I’ve talked to (GM) Erik (Neander) a lot and he’s made me feel pretty good about being with the Rays in 2018," Archer said Wednesday. Whatever uniform he's wearing, Archer carries major fantasy upside as a high-strikeout starter who is capable of better ERAs going forward.

According to Jon Morosi of MLB.com, it is "increasingly likely" that Yu Darvish will sign this week.
We're nearing final offer time on the 31-year-old right-hander, who has been linked to the Twins, Cubs, Brewers, Dodgers, Yankees, and Rangers at various points this offseason. Darvish was also said to be drawing serious interest from the Astros before they acquired Gerrit Cole from the Pirates on January 13. Darvish dropping off the market should create a domino effect for fellow free agent starters like Jake Arrieta, Alex Cobb, and Lance Lynn.

You're not wrong, but neither have they maxed out their spending potential is my point. I'm talking Harper or Blackmon or Donaldson or Keuchel or [insert 2018 name here].Socnorb11 wrote:misterManager wrote:Chicago is smart and not willing to pay for wins that are likely meaningless.
