This is tough, but I'm glad we didn't match that contract. Giving 10 years to Pujols in the AL makes more sense because he can DH.

If the league makes the changes with IL play then he would have gotten plenty of DH opps in the NL.

Not sure how people are mad at Pujols for taking 250-260 million

That's a very good point. Plus, they can DH him when he's ailing, although I expect he will be cranky about that.

Ef Him.

May not be "logical" but it was never logical to become emotionally invested in an athelete anyway.

I officially don't care if he never hits another homerun again.

Outside of STL, the Angels really are about the best place for him.

It’s the AL West which means Cards will rarely play them. They’ve played the Angels like twice in the last 15 years. They will never play a truly meaningful series against each other unless it’s a World Series.

In the end, even with big name players like Pujols, the Angels have always been and will always be (based on location) the #2 team in their own market in a sport that will always be #2 to basketball in their own market. Welcome to relative obscurity albert. You are now as far from the Eastern epicenter of baseball as you’ve ever been. Think the media ignored you in STL? It won’t be much better with the Angels. Most of his games will be on at 9pm central. The east coast writers are in bed by the time you are playing your games.

So, I take solace in the fact that Pujols will not be baseball’s transcendent star playing out there. His days sleepy LA will never make them forget about what he did in STL like could’ve happened if he went to Boston or NY.

Would have been nice for the fanbase (and considering how unhappy some are here, the meatheads of the Cardinal fandom are going to be VERY unhappy at Albert and Mozeliak; I'm guessing if it hasn't happened yet, CT will crash sometime this morning), but let's try to look at this as rationally as we can: that contract could have been absolutely devastating in only a few years, much less 5, or 6, or 7, or 8, or 9 or 10.

In the end, the Cardinals did the smart thing by not topping that. Arte Moreno is insane.

Cub trolls I'm sure will get a chuckle or two out of this today, but when they realize it will make us a better team going forward, they really shouildn't.

I really hope he ends up regretting his choice.
