What are the Republicans offering, with regards to health care reform?

It's terrorism, plain and simple. Not democracy. Terrorism.

This extremist fringe of the Republican party has had 40 something votes in the house to repeal the ACA. That's failed, they don't own the senate.
They've had the 2010 and 2012 elections to put together a majority (or a number to prevent cloture) in the senate, so that they could repeal the law. They failed to do that.
They launched a dozen or so legal challenges to the law. That culminated in the Supreme Court finding it constitutional.

So, they've exhausted the avenues that democracy gives you to repeal a law they don't like. So what's left? Blackmail. Jeoplardize the livelihoods of Americans and the full faith and credit of the United States in one final tantrum. Good for them. Make us bleed if you don't get your way. Let's burn the whole place down, see how the voters like that (if they even remember) come next November.

Honestly, how do you deal with your dad's views to not cause a rift in your relationship? I have a hard time with it myself. Most recently he posits that the number of people living below the poverty level proves the Great Society was a failure.

It's hard. And it does. Particularly when he posts incredibly racist things.

We had a conversation about it once, after he posted something once again about how all Muslims are filthy Jew-killing terrorists.

"You know my friend Karim, right? From undergrad?"
"Oh yeah, Karim, the doctor. How is he?"
"He's great. Finishing his residency in retina surgery. So that thing you posted about Muslims all being filthy Jew-killing terrorists?"
"Oh yeah, that was just an article about the bus bombing."

"Well, Karim is a good friend of mine, and has been for a decade now. He's a Muslim. Many, many Muslims are just like Karim - nice people, Americans, who just go to school or work or take care of their families, like us."

" So when you post things like that on Facebook, where people can see them, it's hurtful to me, and I wish you wouldn't do that."

Then, next week, back to posting stuff about how all the blacks shoot eachother and it's poverty pimps like Sharpton and Jesse Jackson's fault. Nothing I can say will change what is going on here.

So in short, I've had to take some steps. I don't read things he writes on Facebook. I've advised my friends not to accept his friend requests. I do my best to just think of him in terms of the basic goodness and love I know he feels for the people he knows, and ponder what type of mental illness might be affecting him as he ages and worry about that. It's not easy to love him wholly and unconditionally, as I wish I could. So I really don't know what to do about it.

They are offering tireless attacks on Obamacare. That's a reform, right?

My Congressman votes against the stupid things proposed by Cruz, so I have no problem re-electing my Congressman....At the senate level, I didn't have much if a problem with Harkin or Grassley over the years, either. I even voted for Grassley 2 cycles ago....Iowa may be a very poor example of partisanship, because it is one of the most "purple" states in the country. We have a Republican governor, a Democrat-controlled House, and the contingent we send to Washington is a mixed bag.
