Over 150 accidents in the area, the news broke into regular programming to report the "terrible" road conditions, 10 mile commutes were taking two hours and more, and the mayor made a formal announcement that everyone should stay off the roads to make room for plows.
Are the drivers just that bad? I would assume a city as important as DC would have good road crews.
A big part of it is how terrible the drivers are, easily the worst I've ever been around. But also, the local government pretty much sucks. Very poor planning on their part.
I suppose the roads around the federal stuff is nice and clean, though.

Not really. Even the president got stuck in the traffic. I wasn't too far from the White House (7-8 blocks) when it hit, taking the metro, and the roads were trash there. They didn't even start treating the roads until it had been snowing for more than an hour. Throw in some late rush hour traffic, comically inept local drivers, and many foreign or out of state drivers who have never seen snow and you've got a disaster.

I'm reading 6 inches already, a couple more possible.

Mrs Rad took advantage of the no change fee offer and moved her flight home from Boston from tomorrow to Tuesday, just in case it shifts a little north.

I fully expect NYC to get about 3 inches, as reports are currently at 8-12. I kind of hope it's much heavier, and my work is closed.

My DC friends are having a big party tonight, with a ton of booze, food, and extra sleeping bags. Hope you make it out alive, JL.

Probably, check that, definitely the best way to go about it. Everythings gonna be shut down for a couple days and it's gonna snow 3 ft? Okay, let's start boozing when it starts sbowing, go to sleep when it stops. Sleep through the first 12 hours of [expletive]. Wake up and drink through the next 12. Then sleep through the next 12 and basically everything is back to normal. All you got was the good (dude look at the snow! Lets go drunk tackle each other in it!) without any of the bad (dude I've gotta shovel the sidewalk or whatever) someone else will take care of it by the time the binder is over. Seriously though guys stay safe out there.
