Is the Pujols family scheduling their own press conferences or calling into radio shows to talk about it? Maybe they are, I don't know, but my guess is that hungry reporters, especially from StL, are asking them these questions. What answer do they expect? "Yep, it was ALL about the money. It's been real StL. Smell ya later."
We as fans don't even know what the Cards various offers were but it seems like none were close to Anaheim's. It sounds like Albert made a personal effort to get involved. I do believe they wanted to stay in StL. A 5 year offer is a terrible opening gambit. No way in hades does Albert accept that. No way. Do you think Albert feels like he's going to be a shell of himself 5 years from now? Of course he doesn't.
I agree that it sucks he's gone. I never thought I'd see him in another uniform. In some ways I can't believe this is really happening but it might be for the best. I'm not insulted by the Deirdre's comments. In fact, the "Albert is not a possession" one is very insightful, imo. That's what he really was to us, a possession. A proxy for our own sporting fantasies and StL pride, and my extension a very small part of our own identities. Albert was
ours He played for
our team. How can he do this to us? Fans' emotions are understandable, but so are the Pujols family's, imo.
Really? You think Musial and Gibson are just "possessions" to St. Louis fans?
I think Albert wanted to stay in St. Louis too........ if they were the ones offering the most money.
Perhaps not now because they've been removed from playing for so long but in the pre free agency days, they very much were. They were almost literally possessions of the team.

I genuinely think they don't believe it was about the money, even if the underlying reason was money. I honestly think they believe God gave them a sign when their negotiations were not becoming fruitful and they followed where he led.
You can say its BS all you want, but I don't think they're pathological liars. They're delusional.
i agree.
theres a william s burroughs quote id love to quote but i'll refrain
Admittedly, a homosexual can be conditioned to react sexually to a woman, or to an old boot for that matter. In fact, both homo - and heterosexual experimental subjects have been conditioned to react sexually to an old boot, and you can save a lot of money that way.
-William S. Burroughs
I don't see how that's applicable, but it's your point and not mine.

In the here and now, it may appear that Pujols has only been a "possession" to St. Louis. But I always suspected that Pujols was interested in beyond the here and now........ that he truly valued the legacy. As it turns out, I think he put very little or no value on that. To me, that's what's really disappointing.

Albert can buy 869 tickets to Disneyland ever single day of his 10 year deal. Assuming he locks those tickets in now at the bargain $80 adult pass, in order to hedge against future price increases.

Yes. That is what we always expect because we know that anything else is a lie.
Diedre did call into a radio show. The radio station probably initiated it, but she could have declined. The call-in wasn't mandatory. Now am I surprised that they are lying and saying it wasn't about the money? Of course not. This is how it always goes.
It would have just been refreshing for once for them to just keep quiet and go away because any answer they give is just going to make things worse. Ever broken up with a girlfriend? It's exactly like that. Just say "It's not you, it's me" and move on. Do more than that and it only sours it more.

The Cardinals didn't value that legacy either, if you put it that way. They share a healthy share of the blame, if that's what you want to call it.

This is why Berkman saying it's about the money actually made me like him more. And, oddly enough, he ended up signing a below market deal.

The radio station DP called into is a Christian station partly funded by the pujols foundation. For the record. The DJ is a friend to DP.

I hope that now that pujols is gone that radio station can go back to being the city's only classical station.

hahaha
no, its spoken word piece ("words of advice") he did for the band Material. as i was re-reading the lyrics there was 1 or 2 other lines that *I* thought could also be applicable
