-They won the first game 7-5. Cory Rauschenberger gave up 4 runs over 5 innings. Ryan Meaux, who was recently released by the Giants organization and signed by the Cardinals, gave up 1 run in 2/3 of an inning. Chris Perez pitched a scoreless inning and 1/3 with 3Ks and picked up the save. Jon Jay was 2 for 5 with a triple. Colby Rasmus was 1 for 3 with a homer. Joe Mather was 2 for 4 with a homer. - They lost the second game 6-5. Kevin Ool who was moved to the rotation after Chris Lambert was promoted to Memphis, gave up 2 earned runs (5 total) over 4 and 1/3 innings. Jon Jay was 1 for 3 with another triple; but, as cardfaninfla reported, he hurt his wrist and had to leave the game. Colby Rasmus was 3 for 4 with a double, a homer, and a stolen base. He’s now hitting .273,.347,.534.

Palm Beach won 5-1 against the Manatees. Adam Ottavino gave up 1 run over 5 innings with 6 Ks. That broke a string of 2 bad starts. Allen Craig was 1 for 1 with 4 walks. Mark Hamilton was 2 for 4 with a walk. He’s now hitting .246, .274, .377 and is approaching respectable levels. Box Log

Quad Cities won 3-0 to finish their series with the Great Lakes Loons. P.J. Walters pitched 5 scoreless innings with 7 strikeouts. Elvis Hernandez followed with 3 scoreless innings and 5 Ks. Very susprised by the Lambert promotion. I guess they gotta see if he can be that #1 pick and make it to the show. I wonder if this leads to Ottavino to Springfield and Hernandez to Palm Beach. Its early but its possible. Also I guess with Maiques injuries last year they want to pace him. Wasnt he a starter before he got hurt? He is pitching well in the closers role.

My guess is that Lambert will get a shot at closing, because at this point starting doesn't appear to be his ticket to the bigs. There isn't much rotation room at Memphis and Springfield as the recent crop starts to mature and guys like Ginter and Keisler are kept around as insurance. With the recent promotions of Jimenez and Dove, there is bullpen room at AAA.

With Perez tearing up AA I doubt they are going to move a first round pick from just three years ago a reliever. He was raw when they drafted him and his control is starting to come around. He will have to get beat up at AAA for a while before they "give up" on him.

Maiques was a JC pitcher. I believe he led the nation in K's at the JC level. Last year was his second tommy john surgery, so I am not sure if they are moving him to the bullpen for good because they are worried about his arm or if this is just the natural return from TJ surgery like we saw Morris go through.

Rasmus has REALLY turned it on. Wasn't he batting like .200 a week ago?

Just over his last 5 games, he's 10 for 15 with 9 runs, 3 HRs, 5 RBI and 3 SB.
