10th rounder Beau Riportella signed for $123,000. Thats normally 6th round money.
Tulare Union product Beau Riportella is already in Florida at the St. Louis Cardinals' training facility in West Palm Beach.

Riportella, who was taken in the 10th round of the baseball draft last week, said he'll be in Florida for a week before being assigned to the Johnson City Cardinals in the rookie-ball Appalachian League.

"In a week I leave Florida and I'm going to be headed to Johnson City, Tenn.," Riportella said.

The outfielder out of College of the Sequoias said he reached an agreement with the Cardinals on Monday night and arrived in Florida on Tuesday. He signed for $123,000.
Riportella was named to the State Community College Coaches' all-Northern California team as a freshman this season. He hit .360 with 12 doubles, a home run, 16 RBIs and 63 runs scored. The lead-off hitter stole a school-record 31 bases and had a .969 stolen base percentage.

As a senior at Tulare Union, Riportella was the 2006 Times-Delta/Advance-Register Player of the Year

I wonder what kind of money Hooker got.

(Just trying to set up a punchline for someone.)

Mira Mesa's Deryk Hooker, a seventh-round pick of the Cardinals, received a $100,000 signing bonus and $20,000 for school. The 6-5, 195-pound right-hander is to report to the Cardinals' rookie team in Jupiter, Fla., the day after his June 19 high school graduation.

I couldnt come up with a punchline

That's a pretty nice graduation gift.... for a Hooker.

But seriously, remember back to the emotion of high school graduation, and all the parties you attended on subsequent weekends afterwards. He'll miss out almost all of that. Granted, he'll have quite a bit of cash, but still.

Agreed, it weird that his moving out day is the day after graduation... also whats the $20K for school? Did the Cards give him a scholarship that he can eventually use to pay for school?

Actually, his moving day would have to be his graduation day, if he is to report the day after. (He does have to fly across the country, and the time zones are not in his favor.) Would think he could have negotiated an extra day, huh? Unless he heard about Eli Marrero and learned from that.

Yeah, the $20k is a way to help fund college if he ever decides to go back. Of course, by the time he does decide to go back, $20k won't go far towards tuition.

You'd think the onus would be on the player to save up for the possibility, but whatever. I think it's really classy that the Cards did that; don't know if other teams do that but I suspect they do. Hopefully, the Cards put the money in a CD or something bearing interest for the kid.

Arkansas righthander Jess Todd headlines the list of latest Cardinals draft picks to sign. Todd, who struck out 17 in a conference tournament appearance, signed for a $400,000 bonus. Bringing the total to 34 signed of 52 drafted, the others announced Thursday were (round taken): 3B Daniel Descalso (third), OF Antone DeJesus (16th), LHP J.D. Stambaugh (25th), LHP Josh Fritsche (33rd), RHP Mike Blazek (35th), OF Collin Fanning (36th) and RHP Ramon Delgado (41st). ... Asked if first-round pick Pete Kozma, a prep shortstop from Oklahoma, would be signed by the time the shortened seasons begin later this month, farm director Jeff Luhnow said: "That wouldbe a long shot."
