Mike Trout

Post by jim »

I don't know if anyone noticed (did I miss the thread?) that Mike Trout has been called up by the Angels, but he got his first hit the other night on an ok bunt that he just legged out.

I'm going to be watching some Angels games.

He was still out with a better throw though.

I got to watch him play here in Little Rock this year at AA...he is so smooth...I posted in one of the minor league threads about one night he hit one in the gap and when I watched it hit and roll the wall I looked up and he was about 6 steps away from 3b. I talked to Ron Brand about it, he told me he saw the play and couldn't believe how quick he runs.

Made a great running catch against the Mariners in the ninth in his debut. Probably video somewhere.

So this will make tm54 happy. Out at a bar and ran into two fella that worked for the aa teqm in little rock. Both said trout was the nicest coolest mofo of em all. On his way out signed everyone's ball and was humbled.

Scouts have timed Trout at 3.7 home to 1st. That's utterly insane fast.

He doesn't look as though he'd be that fast because he's fairly stocky and has a thick neck, but kid is an amazing athlete.

I remember him pretty well, and I'll admit I did not get him right at all. Had him in the back half of the first round, and that was only because of the speed and defense in CF.

OMG WTF is a teenager doing in a bar!!!!! /outrage

That's been the word from the scouts, that Trout is nice, humble, VERY coachable, and plays the game with his motor running and his enthusiasm/passion for baseball at full steam all the time. (Edit to add: I kind of expect we will end up with a Griffey/Bonds type of dynamic between him and Harper, where both are great, one is greater, but one is far better loved by fans.)

He went 1-4 last night. Should have been 2-4 with a triple, hit a ball on the button to dead-center that Coco Crisp had to get on his horse to catch up to at the track, and then bobbled a second in the palm of the glove. I've seen all but one or two of his PA this year, and his AVG out of the gate isn't pretty and he's only 2-14 or something, but he's barreling up the ball and hitting it hard almost every time up. If he's swung and missed at a ball in the strike zone yet, I haven't seen it, though of course it's only four games. Love me some Mike Trout.

Trout is on first.

Aybar hits a gapper to right-center, Trout has to wait and see if it's caught. It's not.

Trout takes off as the ball lands and takes a bounce off the wall. He's already 1/3 of the way toward 3rd.

Murphy, the RF, receives the ball and turns to throw it back. Trout is hitting third.

I'm pretty sure Trout scored before the ball got to the cutoff man.

Holy [expletive], this kid.

Was he on first after the infield single to the SS? Law said he got a text from a scout that Trout was 3.8 to first on that. Absurd.
