My younger daughter is a HUGE Beatles fan. My older daughter likes them too, but not as much as the littlest Wrox. Anyway, I wanted to get 4 tickets to go to the show here in August. Tix went on sale at 10 AM. I got picked from the virtual waiting area at 10:03 and couldn't even get ONE ticket! THREE [expletive] MINUTES.

I'm betting the whole show was pretty much "sold out" as soon as it was announced. Thanks to [expletive] buying up blocks of tickets and reselling them to make a few bucks, I now have to decide whether to drop 500+ [expletive] dollars to get 4 tickets and pay it to the [expletive] who cause this [expletive] problem, or just tell my girls that I couldn't get tickets and they'll never get to see a Beatle perform live.

[expletive] YOU. [expletive] YOU ALL.

I'm sure all the pre-sales did not help either. American Express card holder presale; season ticket holder presale; Cardinals Nation member presale. I was also shut out but since it will just be hubby and myself, I will buck up and pay scalper dollars!!

Oh, it's not even just the scalpers charging 1.5x the ticket price that sucks. It's the goddamn taxes/fees that StubHub and the like charge.

When I bought our tickets to Guns N Roses a couple months ago, the list price on the ticket was like $169 or something. The seller was charging $285 each for them. After StubHub subsequently gangraped me prison-style, my final purchase price was almost $350/ticket.

well, I guess this answers that question I had in the music thread about when to buy.

i was also waiting until today when they went on sale to get tickets. Then wednesday i got an email about presale tickets because i was a cardinal nation member or some damn thing so I went online and got tickets. At that point all that was left was restricted view tickets. I bought them but still i was pissed. I wanted to be in much better seats. You're right all these [expletive] buying and reselling takes the regular guy out of the game before it even starts. I got section 169 so i will have a side view of the stage because i didn't want to pay the ridiculous mark up on stubhub for better seats. When I bought tickets to ACDC an hour after I got them stubhub had seats in the same section that i was in for 200 bucks more each than I paid. Ridiculous [expletive]..

A girl I like that I work with came up to the bar tonight and I lied and said that I had Bill Burr tickets for a week from tonight. She said she'd really like to go if she can get off work that night for her other job. I was able to immediately get my shift covered where we both work, and I figured I'd buy them either way, because I really want to go, and invite someone else if that fell through. Now I see that they're sold out (unlike what my dumbass friend told me earlier today) and start at $90 on Stubhub for the [expletive] balcony.

I'll see her in passing if I show up to work next Friday, so now I think I'm stuck spending a bunch of money for something that may or may not happen and at the very least losing a shift. I guess I shouldn't lie.

It's any event that has a high demand. As best as I can figure, all that has happened with this secondary market is another greedy hand has dipped into the pot. No extra value, just another point in the chain where a markup occurs. Long ago and far away, when you ordered Cardinal tickets you paid them what the ticket cost, no postage, no fees, no nothing. Then Ticketmaster got involved, and then the fees started. So you went through TM to get to the Cardinals. Now, you go through Stubhub, who goes through a professional ticket buyer, who went through TM who went directly to the source. Markups along the way.

No value, just the ticket. Just more fees.

Absolutely. Something needs to change because income isn't rising at the same level everything else is. We're all being made poor doing the same things we were before.
