Football Hall of Famer Brett Favre revealed Tuesday he was recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

The famed quarterback was speaking in front of the House Ways and Means Committee in a hearing on reforming Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), where he was called to testify before Congress about welfare misspending.

“Sadly, I also lost an investment in a company that I believed was developing a breakthrough concussion drug I thought would help others and I’m sure you’ll understand, while it’s too late for me because I’ve recently been diagnosed with Parkinson’s, this is also a cause dear to my heart,” the quarterback said.

Findings from the Boston University CTE Center have previously suggested that playing football might increase the risk of developing Parkinson’s disease.

Using data from a large online survey sponsored by the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, researchers found that participants who had a history of playing organized tackle football were 61% more likely to report a Parkinson’s disease diagnosis or parkinsonism, an umbrella term for symptoms like tremors and rigidity that cause movement problems, compared with those who played other organized sports.

I'm always conflicted by stuff like this. I don't want anyone to be sick, but Farve is kind of a piece of trash so it's hard to feel a lot of sympathy. Not to mention he drops this at a congressional hearing which seems like a distraction from him being trash.

Human nature is what it is but having compassion for others regardless of their sins is never a bad thing.

May he receive an equal amount of empathy and love that he put into others throughout his life.

I've always wondered if there's a strong connection between brain injuries and Parkinson's. My dad played football for years and had it, and complications from it killed him.

But my father was a far better person than Favre, who is a selfish scumbag.

I have a coffee table book about Favre published before he bilked the poor people of Mississippi out of millions and you wonder why someone who was so beloved by Packers fans would do such a selfish and stupid thing. I even read last year where Don Majkowski, not nearly as talented as Favre but also beloved by Packers fans, got involved in an altercation at a bar.

Aaron Rodgers is hated by my cousin, a retired nurse, because he lied about getting a COVID vaccine. I still care about him even though he’s gone off the rails in more ways than one. My favorite Packers quarterback of all time, Lynn Dickey, has kept his nose clean but not all Packers fans remember him fondly because he only led the team to one playoff game while he was the starter (1976-1985). He missed a lot games due to injury (including the entire 1978 season) and his personal life had many tragedies, but today he goes back to Wisconsin and appears at charity events. I would rather be him than Majkowski, Favre or Rodgers.
