Hector Luna in Cleveland

Looks like Hector's making new friends:
Hector Luna muffed a ground ball, and Wedge clearly isn't pleased with the shortstop's efforts to win the utility-infielder job. ``He needs to get in better shape, and he needs to move around better,'' Wedge said, adding that being on the team last year does not give Luna an edge....

What is Luna's deal? Why doesn't he seem to give a crap?

Don't know what's wrong with him, but I wonder if he wasn't displaying a similar attitude last year, and whether that may have led to his being traded away.

Marrero's attitude must get in his way--

Its a shame because he would be invaluable to the team this year as a 3 rd catcher and reserve OFer.

LaRussa was so hesitant to lift Molina for a PH last season when it really called for a PH because he was afraid Bennett would get injured and he would be left without anyone it really hurt the team in some games.

Huh? This is about Hector Luna, who we traded to the Indians.

I would like to see Marrero make the team not only for this reason, but because he has speed and is versatile.

Actually, while it veered off-target a bit, Marrero's reluctance to catch towards the end of his first tour in St. Louis was, in fact, a large reason why he was traded.

Now, he says he's willing to catch. Facing the possible end of one's career can do great things for one's attitude, I guess. ;)

It would be good, though, for him to make the team, specifically for that reason - you don't have to have Spiezio or (in 1998, Brian Jordan) as an "emergency catcher".

Of course, if we do keep him, we'll have to hear from the boo-birds complaining that we're keeping three catchers while Rodriguez and Schumaker and Cabrera are toiling at Memphis.

I honestly think the Cardinals would be a better team with Marrero and Schumaker on the bench than say J Rod , Taguchi, or Miles.
