The Cardinals made six trims from their roster, and one was a bit of a surprise. Assigned to the minor-league camp officially this morning will be infielders Brendan Ryan and Travis Hanson, outfielders Colby Rasmus and Cody Haerther and pitchers Mike Smith and Troy Cate.
NOT TROY !!!

No surprises at all. Cate needs his innings (he's not going to get them with all of our starters doing so well and getting into the fifth inning now) so he goes to minor-league camp and starts there; if we need him, we can always have him come back to the major-league side of things.
Likewise with Ryan - after missing so much time last season due to injuries, he needs all the AB's he can get - not just this spring, but as the everyday shortstop at Memphis - and Miles or Cabrera can handle the utility chores in the meantime.
