 Todd Walker-2B- Padres Mar. 26 - 6:06 pm et

The Padres announced that infielder Todd Walker will be released on Wednesday.
Walker will only be owed a quarter of the $3.95 million he had been due to make this season. The Padres wanted to trade Walker, but his salary made that too difficult. The 33-year-old should quickly land a bench job elsewhere. There aren't any teams looking for starting second basemen, but his left-handed bat still makes him pretty useful.

Don't know how he fits on this team. But a very good utility guy just re-entered the market.

Walker > Miles

That is if someone can play SS if Eckstein goes down.

Walker cannot play shortstop.

Cardinals should have no interest.

Todd Walker is very underrated as a hitter IMO - he gets on base like crazy. I'm sure there are some AL teams that would like him as a DH.

To be a useful utility guy you have to play defense adequately at multiple positions. Walker doesn't play defense anywhere.

I think an AL team like the Mariners should get him and try him at DH.

No use off the bench really IMO.

Boston used Walker well in 2004 - put him out there for 3 AB, then put Jackson in for defense late.

The man may be able to hit, but between his defense and his bad attitude - especially early on with Tom Kelly in Minnesota - it's no wonder he's hopped around so much in his career.

I don't care much for him... I'm very thankful I haven't had to listen to him on radio interviews in Chicago since last July.

I think the Cards should be interested. He's a good hitter.
