Molina 5th, eh?

Post by planet planet »

I don't know if you saw the excerpt from Goold's blog that Timmy posted yesterday, but it looks like Molina will be batting 5th, at least in the near term. What do you think?

I think it's a bad idea.

I think it's just crazy enough that I kinda like it.

Hopefully it's just because there's a lefty on the mound tonight, not that it's a terrific idea either way.

With Encarnacion on the DL, there probably isn't a better option against a lefty.

At the end of April last year Molina had a 350 OPS. Not a 350 OBP, a 350 OBP+SLG. The year before it was 388. I'm guessing the point here is to get Molina to start hitting some time before Derby Day.

Or maybe it's like that Cubs logo currently sitting on the upper left corner of my screen.

its only against left-handed pitchers.

we were doing that last year, I"m sure of it. Maybe even in the post-season? Am I hallucinating?

I swear I remember Molina batting 5th against lefties, not all year, but I remember it.

and YOU were there! and YOU! ... and the whole time I could've come home if I had just...

no really. Can anybody else recall this?

I can't recall Molina ever hitting 5th, but to be sure I checked baseballreference.com. My recollection was correct, Molina never hit 5th.

Where was he hitting when he hit that dinger off of Heilman in Game 7?

I'm hoping this is temporary until Jimmy gets his legs under him.

He hit 7th, Belliard hit 8th.
