How Long Would You Stick Around In The Minors?

Say you had the skill to be a good AAA player...... maybe a role playing MLB player, but you always get sent down to AAA at the end of Spring Training. You have been called up to the show a couple of times, just for a few games to fill in for an injury, but you can't seem to stick around.
At what age would you hang it up?

Bingo!!! If you are on teh fringe of the majors and getting the call every once in while you play until no one picks you up any more. Now if you are riding the bus in AA for 20 years you might have a different viewpoint.

When I get released and don't get picked up by someone else.
Then it would be time to become a minor league coach or manager or scout.

I'd angle for a few years in Japan in my late 20s. Then I'd come back and play as long as I could.

Yeah, if I was single I'd mess around here in the US for a while, do a spell in Japan, maybe a tour of the Italian League, and then come back here and coach.

Try starting and having a family under those conditions, the minor league pay isn't much and you're in your late 20s/early 30s hanging on as a AAAA player with a wife and child (children) that you don't get to see much.
If you were lucky enough to go to college or have saved enough to go to college, you could go that route. If Baseball is all that you have, then you are better off choosing that field (literally). This combined with w/family obligations should decide whether or not it is worth it.
I know players that became scouts and players that are now selling insurance, it is a difficult choice for them.

You can make really good money as a Quad-A type of guy. I'd be Scott Seabol for as long as possible. I wouldn't be Bo Hart, who's now in indy ball not making anything.

I would've preferred that to what I've done otherwise. At my age, I'd be involved in coaching, scouting or front office stuff these days.
Beats the heck out of the corporate treadmill.
